The dictyopharids planthopper genus Dictyophara Germar, 1833 from China is revised and restricted in Palaearctic Region of northern China. Only four recognized Dictyophara species are: D. europaea (Linnaeus, 1767), D. koreana Matsumura, 1915, D. nekkana Matsumura, 1940 and D. pannonica (Germar, 1830), which the former two are recorded from China for the first time. One new generic and three new specific synonyms are recognized: Dictyophara Germar, 1833 = Togaphora Matsumura, 1940 syn. nov.; D. koreana Matsumura, 1915 = Centomera manchurica Kato, 1933 syn. nov. = Togaphora hokuryonis Matsumura, 1940 syn. nov.; D. nekkana Matsumura, 1940 = Dictyophara kaszabi Dlabola, 1967 syn. nov. Photographs of the adults of all known species are presented. Descriptions of the genus and its included species are provided together with structural illustrations of the male genitalia. A key and a distribution map to the four species of Dictyophara from China are provided.
A new genus and species of extinct Achilidae — Waghilde baltica gen. and sp. nov., from the Eocene Baltic amber is described. It represents a new tribe of Achilinae - Waghildini trib. nov. The relationships of Waghildini and its placement among recently recognized tribes of Achilinae is discussed.
A new monotypie genus of flatid planthoppers (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) is described from Socotra island (Yemen): Haloflata gen. nov. for H. arthrocnemi sp. nov. (type species). Habitus, male and female external and internal genital structures of the new species are illustrated and compared with similar taxa. The new species was found in association with Arthrocnemum macrostachyum (Amaranthaceae) in coastal saltmarshes in western Socotra.
Three new genera of extinct Dictyopharidae, Lophopidae and Eurybrachyidae respectively are described. Wedelphus gen. nov. with Wedelphus dichopteroides sp. nov. placed in Dictyopharidae, Baninus gen. nov. with Baninus thuringiorum sp. nov. of the family Lophopidae and Amalaberga gen. nov. with Amalaberga ostrogothiorum sp. nov. placed in Eurybrachidae (first fossil record of the family) are described, all from deposits of the Grube Messel Lagerstätte in Germany. A representative of an unrecognised family, possibly related to Henriksenopterix Petrulevičius, 2005 is reported. The oil shales of the Messel maar in Hessen are well known for their extremely rich fossil flora and fauna. They are of Lower Middle Eocene age (about 48 million years) and contain a highly diverse insect fauna.
A key to Derbidae subfamilies and tribes of Otiocerinae is given. A new tribe of Otiocerinae (Derbidae) planthoppers, Aquaeliciini trib. nov., is established to comprise a few genera from the African continent and Madagascar. The tribe Patarini Emeljanov, 1994 is redefined and key to the genera is given. New genera: Ileifea gen. nov. for Patara radiata Synave, 1979, comb, nov., and Muiravea gen. nov., for Patara hargreavesi Muir, 1930, comb, nov., from Africa are described. Three new genera from Madagascar: Ravola gen. nov., Razanus gen. nov. and Vizimbum gen. nov., are described and new species: Vizimbum constanti sp. nov., Vizimbum lakandavaensis sp. nov., Razanus beniowskii sp. nov. and Ravola pennyi sp. nov. are described. An annotated checklists of Aquaeliciini and Patarini with data on distribution are given. New localities of Patara vanduzei Ball, 1902 from North America are presented.
The new extinct species Thionia douglundbergi sp. nov. of the recent genus Thionia Stål, 1859 from the Miocene Dominican amber is described. The morphological features of the genus are discussed in brief. The fossil record of ‘higher’ Fulgoroidea in New World fossil resins is discussed.
