The examinations were done on 40 cods fished at the Baltic sea during a scientific cruise of the „Profesor Siedlecki” boat. The level of specific antibodies against bacteria pathogenic for cods such as Vibrio sp., Aeromonas sp. and Pseudomonas sp. was determined by passive haemagglutination test using strains isolated from sick cods fished during the cruise and laboratory strains. Antibodies were found in 50% of sera of normal and 20% of sera of sick cods. The titre of antibodies was low, the highest titre was 1:16. Antibodies against Vibrio sp. were most prevalent. Less often were found antibodies against Pseudomonas sp. and Aeromonas sp.
Reproductive losses in fur animal farms in Poland caused by parvovirus infections indicated the necessity to develop effective immunopreparates. During 1993-1994 experimental vaccines for foxes and minks were prepared. They contained inactivated and attenuated parvoviruses of cats (strain FPV-FA1) and minks (strain MEV-143). Viruses were propagated in a permanent cell line of feline lungs. Safety and immunological activity of experimental vaccines, as well as commercial vaccines used for dogs and cats in Poland, were estimated. Additionally, vaccines containing inactivated mink enteritis virus used in Scandinavia for the immunization of foxes and minks were included in the experiment. The activity of vaccines was estimated on the basis of parvoviral antibody levels in vaccinated animals. An experimental vaccine containing strain MEV-143 was the most effective, even 1/5-th of the dose induced specific antibodies. Comparable results were obtained when reference vaccines containing inactivated mink enteritis virus were used. Full protection in vaccinated foxes was developed 28 days after vaccination. The obtained results were the basis for large scale field experiments carried out in Poland during 1994/95.
Infection of calves with parainfluenza virus (PI₃) and bovine leukemia virus (BLV) induced a clear immunologic response. A high titre of HI type antibodies (1:1280-1:2560) 2 weeks after the injection (p.i.) of PI₃ has been determined. The antibodies persisted at the level of 1:1280-1:2560 for one month and then steadily decreased. The Geometric Mean Titre (GMT) of antibodies for PI₃ virus in this group of calves after 2, 4 and 6 weeks and after 2, 3 and 4 months p.i. was 2250, 1810, 2560, 905, 240 and 323.8, respectively. In calves infected exclusively with PI₃ virus the positive HI titres were 1:80-1:160 two weeks p.i., but the highest titres (1:320-1:1280) were noted at 4 and 6 weeks after infection. Titres 1:20-1:80 were noted at the 4th month after infection. The GMT of antibodies in these calves was 95.1, 678, 1280, 269, 170 and 33.6, respectively. The level of antibodies for calves infected with PI₃ virus and BLV was two- or threefold higher than that in animals infected with PI₃ virus only. The HI titres were 23-fold higher in these animals at 2 weeks p.i. The simultaneous infection of calves with PI₃ virus and BLV significantly enhances immune response and the level of HI type antibodies for PI₃ virus.
The objective of the study was to ascertain the presence of complement binding antibodies against T. vaginalis, T. tenax and hominis in the blood of women with chronic simultaneous (two species) trichomoniasis, and a comparison of the dynamics of antibody formation in the blood of women with one species trichomoniasis. The determinations were made prior to and following the treatment with Fasigyn, in hope to obtain additional data on antigene properties of trichomonas parasites of human organism. The test for complement binding was made for 144 women, 84 of them simultaneously infected with two of the three species of Trichomonas mentioned above and 60 with one. It has been found that in the former the complement binding antibodies attain higher concentrations (except antibodies against T. hominis), and following the Fasigyn treatment in all the cases they return to the normal level later than in respective monospecific trichomoniasis. The highest concentrations of the antibodies, both against T. vaginalis and T. tenax have been found in women with simultaneous trichomoniasis of urogenital system and oral cavity. Lower concentrations of the antibodies against both these species of Trichomonas have been found in women with simultaneous trichomoniasis of both urogenital system and intestine or both intestine and oral cavity. This can be accounted for by a dose antigene relationship between T. vaginalis and T. tenax, and a much more distant relationship of both these species on the one hand and T. hominis on the other.
