The author presents some topics from the international conference on environmental aesthetics that was held in Koli National Park, northeast of Joensuu in Karelia (Finland). The topics included: ethics and aesthetics; love of landscape — refections on Japanese life, art and nature; education by observation; important elements of landscape; the garden as an artifact of art; the beauty of nature in the child’s world; man and landscape.
The visual communication system in public space is a relatively new issue. The absence of precise legal provisions regulating advertising displays leads to systematic spoiling of the landscape. The author presents this problem using the example of Zakopane. Albeit the locality and the entire surrounding region of the Podhale is a protected landscape zone, it nevertheless presents a picture of a landscape utterly spoiled by advertisements.
