Sugar maize is planted in Poland on about 2.500 ha. Agrotechnical recommendations for cultivation of this species are similar to fodder maize planted for grain. However, some differences are to be mentioned; the most important of them concern: the time of sowing, plant density, fertilization, plant protection and time of harvest. Sugar maize could be used for direct consumption, canning and milling industry for grits or flour production from matured grain. Benefits from growing sugar maize justify increasing the acreage of that crop in Poland.
