Changes in total productivity were investigated with regard to production factors and internal inputs for the group of 10 large-acreage farms within the period 1997-2000. The Malmquist index and non-parametric data analysis DEA, were used to measure total factor productivity changes. The Malmquist index was decomposed into two component factors: technical change ratio and efficiency change ratio. The results were reported in form of growth rates. Nine objects showed an increase in productivity of total production factors. For the whole group, the average productivity growth rate was 4.6%. Our results indicate that the productivity growth of production factors was mainly accomplished through technical changes rather than the efficiency improvements. One of the 10 farms (farm no 9) displayed the highest average productivity fall both in terms of total production factors and internal inputs. The average total productivity of internal inputs decreased at the annual rate of -4.5%, this fall resulted from considerable decline in technical efficiency since the average rate of efficiency change was -8.5%, as compared to positive rate of technical change, being equal to 4.3%. Within the studied group, 70% farms reached positive growth dynamics of the total productivity of internal inputs. It was shown that majority of studied farms introduced modernization and technological changes what made possible the reduction of labor resources.

Celem badań była ocena zmian produktywności całkowitej rolnictwa pięciu województw tworzących Polskę Wschodnią, tj. lubelskiego, podlaskiego, podkarpackiego, świętokrzyskiego, małopolskiego i warmińsko-mazurskiego w latach 2007-2011. W badaniach wykorzystano metodę nieparametryczną bazującą na indeksie produktywności Malmquista. Wyniki badań wskazują, że w badanych latach we wszystkich województwach, podobnie jak na poziomie kraju, nastąpił wzrost produktywności całkowitej rolnictwa. W każdym z województw wzrost ten był jednak znacznie niższy niż na poziomie kraju, gdzie wynosił 38%. W pięciu regionach tworzących Polskę Wschodnią średnia wartość indeksu Malmquista wynosiła w badanym okresie 1,099, natomiast wzrost produktywności był efektem zmian technologicznych. Efektywność techniczna wykazała niewielki wzrost jedynie w województwie lubelskim.

The main purpose of the study was to define the level of education efficiency in State agricultural universities in 2001-2005 by using the DEA method. The author attempted to explain the inefficiency by employing the super DEA method and DEA-based Malmquist productivity index measures. In the paper the following detailed targets were set: – to analyse technical efficiency level of education; – to define production gap; – to establish a ranking of universities, – to calculate DEA-based Malmquist productivity total index measure. The sample covers 8 State universities: University of Technology and Agriculture in Bydgoszcz, Krakow Agricultural University, University of Agriculture in Lublin, University of Agriculture in Poznan, University of Agriculture in Siedlce (Podlaski University of Agriculture), University of Agriculture in Szczecin, University of Agriculture in Wroclaw, and Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The value of relative efficiency ranged from 0.950 and 0.991 while the scale efficiency ranged from 0.943 to0.968 in 2001-2005. Analysis shows that in the case of inefficient agricultural universities it is possible to combine analysed inputs more effectively and – consequently – to allocate public funding in education in a better way.
