This research analysed livelihood diversification and income in resident communities along the Kiri Dam, Adamawa state, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were: to describe the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, assess the level of livelihood diversification of the respondents, analyse income of the respondents, identify factors associated with varying levels of income, and identify constraints to livelihood diversification in the area. A multistage sampling technique was used to collect primary data from 120 respondents from the study area. The data collected were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that the majority of the respondents were male (78%), married (76%), educated (70%), below 60 years of age (93%) and employed in agricultural activities (83%). The Simpson index of diversification shows that 43% of the respondents diversify at an average level. The majority (60%) of the respondents’ annual income is over ₦ 200,000. The ordinary least square estimation shows that age, marital status, education, irrigation activities, fishing, farm size and level of diversification affect income level in the area. The main constraints to diversified livelihood in the area were a lack of basic social infrastructure, a hippopotamus menace and flooding. The study recommended the provision of social infrastructure and the control of hippopotamuses.

Food self-supply and income of rural households

100%
Food self-supply is one of the ways of satisfying food needs, which is achieved through bypassing the market, in households located in rural areas. The studies conducted in 2011 and 2012 in 1000 households in Mazowieckie Province demonstrated a large scale of self-supply. A signifi cant portion of households declares consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as homemade preserves produced in their own household. The main objective of this article is to assess the phenomenon of food self-supply of households located in rural areas of Mazowieckie Province, with particular emphasis on their income. Based on the literature and conducted studies, the authors have formulated a hypothesis that the signifi cance of food self-supply in rural households diminishes with the increase in household income.
Farmers’ social insurance system is financed by the state budget to a considerable degree. It results from low premium paid by insured, as well as the lack of its resistance towards changes in demographic potential. In the face of that, considering both economic and demographic factors the farmers’ social insurance system reform should be introduced.
The aim of the article is to show the possibilities of increasing the effectiveness of employees remuneration usage as discretionary income.
In the paper is modeled demand for dairy products based on the consumer price of milk product and disposable cash incomes available to households of employees, households of self-employed persons and pensioners by regression and correlation analysis and marketing research. In examining the consumption of dairy products was quantified elasticity of demand, own price elasticity, indirect (cross) elasticity of demand, substitution relationships, complementarity and association.
This report starts with an overview based on national-level data from official sources and then presents the findings of a survey of rural households conducted in 2001 in Mazowieckie region, Poland. The study focuses on income distribution differences and income level comparison among four subregions. The change of rural household living standard during the socio-economic transformation and the attitudes of rural households towards the transformation are also examined. By analyzing source of income and related effect factors, some components of potential sources of income and the policy urgently needed to develop rural area in Poland are suggested.
Since 1990, Swedish agriculture has stagnated in production, while the number of firms and employed persons has fallen considerably. Even other factors of production than labour and the size of the livestock have fallen somewhat. We can yet observe, that Swedish agricultural firms have become larger, regarding non-human factors. Two explanations for this are investigated: Economies of scale, defined as falling average costs, when production is rising, and the old system of support by the CAP, which was related to total production. The CAP support system is changing from production support to firm and income support. The future will show, whether Ecomonies of Scale (EOS) is the explanation of the growing Swedish farm size or not.
The paper presents an analysis of the impact of the EU enlargement in 2004 on the agricultural output and incomes of the EU Member States. The main aim of the study is to test the significance of difference of reaction to enlargement in three distinct groups of members, namely the ‘old’ fifteen Member States, the ‘new’ ten Member States which accessed the EU on May 1st 2004, and the two ‘newest’ Member States, i.e. Romania and Bulgaria which accessed the EU on January 1st 2007. For the purpose of description of different countries behaviour a linear mixed model was applied.
Subject and purpose of work: The aim of the study is to assess the regional differentiation of the average level of farm income and to answer the question of whether during 2006-2014 there was a tendency towards convergence in this area. Materials and methods: The spatial scope of research included four FADN agricultural regions, whereas the time span covered the years 2006-2014. The numerical data used for the analyses were sourced from standard FADN results. The assessment of convergence was carried out using the coefficient of variation (sigma convergence) and the relative index of changes in the regions compared to the country (beta convergence). Results: The conducted research indicates the existence of regional disproportions in terms of average income level and average labour profitability on farms. The highest average income was achieved throughout all the years covered by research in the region of Pomerania and Masuria, and the lowest one in Lesser Poland and Carpathian Foothills. The research demonstrates that during 2006-2014 there was no convergence in the average level of income and average labour profitability of farms in the FADN regions. Conclusions: Convergence is a long-term process, so the research should be treated as an initial examination of the regional differentiation of the income situation of farms.
