The effect was studied of the M. expansa homogenate administered with Freund’s complete adjuvant and Propionibacterium granulosum - on the humoral response of lambs spontaneously infected with Moniezia sp. Statistically significant increase in precipitating, complement fixing and haemagglutinating antibodies was observed in lambs immunized with homogenate injected with Freund’s adjuvant. Limitation of prevalence of infection observed in immunized animals was not statistically significant.
The aim of the study was determination of selected parameters of immunological response among hop growers and farmers in conditions of intensive exposure to means of plant protection. Survey data was collected from 238 males aged 25-70 living in the area of Wilkow near Pulawy (Lublin Region). Control group were males from the area of Witoszyn (Lublin Region) - 53 people aged 25-70 occupied mainly with land cultivation. Based on an environmental survey conducted among hop growers and farmers, the respondents were divided into 3 age groups: 25-40, 41-55 and 56-70. Laboratory tests covered the determination of selected morphological parameters, phagocytic test, NBT test, and myeloperoxidasis (MPO) concentration in blood serum of hop growers and farmers.A significant decrease was noted in the number of platelets in the general population of hop growers and in individual age groups, compared to the control groups of farmers. Analysis of individual sub-populations of leukocytes showed a significantly higher number statistically of basophils and lymphocytes among hop growers, compared to farmers. A detailed analysis of the degree of phagocytic and bactericidal activity of neutrophils allowed us to presume that during the period of spraying there occured a mobilisation of the granulocytic system, manifested by the presence of over 90% of neutrophils of intensified phagocytic activity, and 20% of neutrophils of intensified bactericidal activity. The preparations prepared by the routine NBT test method were analysed with the use of LUCIA computer programme (version 4.51). The analysis of the level of MPO in blood serum in the populations examined showed the presence of statistically significant differences. In hop growers, the MPO level was significantly higher statistically (60.0 ng/ml), compared to the control group of farmers (43.4 ng/ml).
The aim of the study was to determine the time of emergence and level of Y. enterocolitica antibodies in pregnant sows challenged orally with Y. enterocolitica in particular trimesters of pregnancy (groups I, II and III, respectively) and also the assignation of its influence on the CRP and Hp concentration in sera of pigs. Levels of antibodies measured by tube agglutination test increased slowly from 2 weeks post infection (wpi) and positive results were obtained not in all animals. In ELISA, in 2 weeks in all groups of infected animals high levels of antibodies against Y. enterocolitica were formed and lasted up to the end of the experiment. In newborn piglets in all groups, a significant decrease in antibody levels 6 weeks after birth was observed in both agglutination and ELISA tests. Concentrations of CRP as Hp in all groups of infected animals increased in 1 week post infection. Statistically significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) between CRP levels in groups I and II (46-fold and 44-fold) as well as III (29-fold) were revealed. In case of Hp, statistically significant differences between groups of animals in the first week post infection were not observed. Our findings indicate that Y. enterocolitica infection evoked strong and long-lasting immunological reaction in the form of specific antibodies production in all inoculated animals. The significant increase in CRP and moderate increase in Hp concentrations in the sera of pregnant sows also occurred. However, relationships between colostrums antibody levels in piglets’ sera and phase of pregnancy when the Y. enterocolitica infection happened in sows were not observed.
Omówiono efekty toksycznego oddziaływania azotanów i azotynów na funkcje absorpcyjne oraz wydzielnicze błony śluzowej jelita cienkiego. Przedyskutowano wpływ azotanów i azotynów na procesy dojrzewania i różnicowania komórek krypty jelitowej. Oceniono wybrane kierunki odpowiedzi immunologicznej jelita cienkiego w następstwie zatrucia azotanami oraz azotynami.
Interleukins play a very important regulatory role in the immunological system. Much attention is payed to understand their complicated activities during parasite infections. To investigate their presence in host organisms techniques of molecular biology have been applied. Nucleotide sequences of many interleukins have been established and analysed. The coding sequences of different species are highly conserved. Rodents are especially investigated because of their usefulness as laboratory models for many animal and human parasitic diseases. Here we take a look at mouse (Mus musculus), rat (Rattus norvegicus), hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) and guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) interleukins and compare their coding sequences and gene structures.
