Pharmacological immunohomeostatic prophylaxis as a method of anti-infectious preventive treatment based on synthetic immunostimulating agents and aspirin-like drugs (nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs) has been discussed. The author presents a hypothesis that nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs which inhibit tissue reactions, similar to the pharmacological action of glycocorticoids — hormones of adaptation — can be useful to facilitate adaptation and to increase the tolerance for homeostatic disturbances. It has been proved experimentally that a single dose of acetylsalicylic acid as well as mefenamic acid or indomethacin prevents the immunosupressive influence of cold stress and the hypothermy in rabbits. Similar effects have been obtained after the application of levamisole, imuthiol (DTG) or microdoses of mechlorethamine (Nitrogranulogen). The author concludes that immunosupressive influence of other environmental aggressive agents can be inhibited pharmacologically in a similar way. The prophylactic usefulness of those drugs has been confirmed on cows, calves, sows, piglets and horses. The results are satisfactory.
