The impact of compensation exercises on the muscle imbalance at 15-year-old students

The aim of this work was to gain and broaden the knowledge about muscle imbalance in first year high school students and to determine the impact of compensational program on the changes in muscle imbalance. The file was comprised of 49 students from two classes aged 15 to 16 years. The classes were randomly divided into an experimental (n = 25) and control (n = 24) file and became a subject of a double-group concurrently ongoing experiment. We examined the students with functional tests to identify tightened and weakened muscles and abnormal motion patterns. The examination included tests of motion capabilities as well. By means of input measurements we have observed a high frequency of muscle imbalance in the entire file of students. An experimental element – the compensational exercises were incorporated into the physical education classes of the experimental file for a time period of 9 months. The compensation exercises consisted mainly of stretching exercises, exercises aimed at the activation and strengthening of the core muscles, stabilizing exercises and functional exercises. The experimental element also included theoretical blocks. We have not observed statistic changes in the individual parts of muscle imbalance in the output measurements of the control file. Statistically significant changes (p < 0,01), (p < 0,05) occurred in the experimental file in a majority of cases and compensation exercises had a great impact on the decreasing of incidence of the individual disorders.

Badanie oddziaływania tiuramu na ośrodkowy układ nerwowy prowadzono na potomstwie trzech pokoleń szczurów w okresie od 1 do 25 dnia życia postnatalnego. Ocenę neurotoksycznego efektu oparto o badania różnych form zachowania oraz oznaczania parametrów neurochemicznych (adrenalina, noradrenalina, dopomina, ceruloplazmina). Dane doświadczalne wskazują, że tiuram w stężeniu 400 mg/kg w paszy podawany szczurom w teście 3-generacji wywołuje zaburzenia funkcjonalne ośrodkowego układu nerwowego u potomstwa badanych pokoleń F1a, F2a oraz, że odchyleniom różnych form behawioru towarzyszą zmiany poziomu neurotransmiterów w tkance mózgowej.

Auriculo-vestibular symptoms are otolaryngological complaints which frequently co-occur with functional disorders of masticatory organ. These symptoms include: earache, plugged ears sensation, sudden hearing impairment, burning pain of the throat, tinnitus, and dizziness. The aim of the study was assessment of co-occurrence of functional disorders of masticatory organ and auriculo-vestibular symptoms, in patients referred for otolaryngological treatment. Forty-two patients aged 24-46 years of both sexes referred for otolaryngological treatment, because of auriculo-vestibular symptoms, were qualified to our study within the framework of research project. After otolaryngological diagnostics (Department of Otolaryngology), these patients were referred for prosthetic consultation to the Department of Dental Prosthetics of Jagiellonian University Medical College. In Otolaryngology Clinic the following specialist examinations were carried out: basic clinical examinations, including otoscopy, tuning fork trials, tonal and verbal audiometry, and tympanometry. These examinations were supplemented with electronystagmometry. On prosthetic consultation, specialist functional investigations of masticatory organ, and electromyographic assessment of the activity of masseter muscles and the anterior part of the temporal muscle, were carried out. Results of the investigation revealed otolarygological causes of the reported symptoms in 30 patients, whereas in 12 patients (out of 42 patients referred for prosthetic consultation), numerous functional disorders of the stomatognathic system were observed. The investigation confirmed the occurrence of functional disorders in patients with auriculo-vestibular symptoms and appropriateness of treatment by a multi-specialist team.
