In the article the authors consider the functioning of small farms. The paper focuses on crucial problems connected with the defi nition of small farms and with their traditional and modern functions. The paper presents farmers’ opinions about small agricultural operations, as information was collected from 100 farmers from Kozienicki county, Poland. The farmers had from 1 to 5 ha of agricultural land. Respondents’ declarations indicate that small farms perform mainly social functions. They expressed their definition of a small farm as one having from 1 to 10 ha of agricultural land. The majority of respondents were dissatisfi ed with their agriculture income. Their main reason for continuing activity in agriculture was the fact that they were the only successors in the family.

Analysis of productivity indicators in dairy farms

88%
The aim of the paper was to analyse the relation of milk yield per cow with a set of production factors on sample data from six dairy farms located in the central region of Poland. The farms, which were the subject of the study, carried out an intensive production, achieving milk yield over the national average. The research showed an increase in milk yield with increasing number of cows in the herd, which, in practice, can lead to increased loads in milking installations in farms keeping more cows.
Destruction processes are hardly identified with regard to farms being peculiar economic entities. The purpose of this paper is an attempt of differentiation between the following terms: divestments and the economic fall of farms. A theoretical analysis was illustrated with mass statistics data showing the scale on which farms in Poland discontinued farming activities and the results of quality research conducted among 50 landowners from the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The analyses presented here allowed to more fully describe the concept of a divestment stressing scope and durability of destructive changes that have been occurring and their planned and intentional nature.
Livestock rearing plays a pivotal role in providing population with food commodities and contributes 46.3% of the gross agricultural output of Uzbekistan. Aftermath of independence many state enterprises, which were main livestock commodity producers were closed down. As conseąuence, now the livestock population take place in household plots and newly formed small sized private farms. Considering the rareness of research on livestock rearing in Uzbekistan in the last two decades this paper aims at finding out problems faced by livestock producers during the transition period and analyzes possible solutions for further improvement based on survey results of 56 livestock farms and 80 household farms from the region Khorezm. Improvement of input and output market infrastructure and appropriate institutional changes in land and water use rights would allow further development of the livestock sector in conditions of market economy.
