Change in the environment is inevitable and rapid. The cause of the change could be a natural phenomena or life processes. Human activity such as development of agriculture and technology which give rise to widespread industrialization has led to potentially changing environment as a result of pollution culminating in the release of harmful substances such as Agricultural waste, industrial waste, metal scraps, sewage, microbial concentration, oil spills etc. into the soil, water or air. Human environmental intervention as in the construction of dams and diversion of rivers is another cause of change in the environment. Other causes are ozone depletion, Acid rain and acid mine drainage etc. The impact of the changing environment on human health identified in this paper seek to explore the causes of environmental change, effect of human activities on causes of environmental change and effect of changing environment on human health. The findings identified some effects of human activities as outbreaks of infectious diseases leading to human incapacitation and death in severe cases, damage genetic material leading to heritable genetic disorders, malnourishment as a result of wiping out of plants and animal life. Others are skin cancer, reduction of life expectancy etc. some recommendation were made which are Environmental conservation measures, Governments and Non-governmental organizations educating the citizenry.
The presented work shows a method of evaluating the changes of territorial sozofloristic value which illustrates the effects of anthropogenic pressure on threatened and rare flora of a given area. As a result, a distribution map of the changes of the flora is shown, aiming to support conservation activities within Opole voivodship, e.g. the flora conservation strategy. The territorial sozofloristic value has been determined in two stages. In the first stage, the species sozofloristic value for a selected group of 302 plant species has been evaluated on the basis of 14 criteria. These were plants considered rare, threatened or protected within the province borders, so-called sozophytes. Then, species sozofloristic values have adequately been summed up on the readily prepared cartogram consisting of 2298 basic squares, thus receiving the territorial distribution of floristic richness of the region. Next, the comparison of the sozofloristic value between two periods, 1806-1944 and 1945-2001 were done. The analysis of characteristic features and reasons of the received distribution has been undertaken, with the particular taking into consideration the territories of the highest changes of the sozofloristic value. The possibilities to use these analyses in regional flora conservation have been presented.

The use of new technology, which is airborne laser scanning (LiDAR), allows to analyze changes in the natural environment. Due to its accuracy and precision, this method makes possible to study even small landforms. It is an excellent complement to traditional surveying methods. The analysis deals with Dębina Cliff – the several-kilometers long form located at the coast of the Ustka Gulf. The cliff was developed using LiDAR images and generated DEMs (Digital Elevation Models). Orthophotomaps and topographic maps in scale 1:10 000 proved to be helpful as well. The usefulness of LiDAR images and products for studying small landforms was presented. On their basis, the exact morphometric characteristics of Dębina Cliff was determined. By comparing images taken at different seasons, it was also possible to determine the changes that have occurred during the survey. Calculations and measurements have been developed with a help of GIS software: ArcGIS, QuantumGIS and Global Mapper.
Plant community assembly is determined by species turnover and intraspecific trait variations (ITV) controlled by environment changes. However, little is known about how species turnover and ITV affect the responses of plant community to habitat changes and grazing disturbance in semiarid grasslands. Here, we measured five functional plant traits in four typical grassland habitats under fencing and grazing disturbance in a semiarid grassland, Northern China, including plant height, specific leaf area (SLA), leaf dry matter content (LDMC), leaf nitrogen content (LNC) and leaf carbon: nitrogen ratio (C:N). We also calculated the community weighted means (CWM) and non-weighted means (CM) of all traits and examined the relative roles of species turnover and ITV in affecting the responses of community traits to habitat changes and grazing disturbance. Our results showed that the CWM and CM values of five functional traits differed with grassland habitat changes. As compared to other grasslands, the Stipa steppe had the higher plant height, the sandy grassland had the higher SLA and lower LDMC, and the meadow had the lower LNC and higher C:N. Grazing decreased plant height across grassland habitats, as well as decreased SLA and increased LDMC in meadow. The responses of all community-level traits to habitat changes were driven by species turnover, while the responses of phenotypic traits (height, SLA and LDMC) to grazing were determined by both species turnover and ITV. So, we argue that ITV should be considered when understanding plant community assembly under grazing disturbance regime in semiarid grasslands.
The article presents the results of a test on the resistance of Neolithic waterlogged beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.) to destruction by subterranean Reticulitermes lucifugus Rossi. Methodology consistent with the ASTM D 3345-08 Standard was applied in the experiment. In the coercion test, the modern beech wood was destroyed at an intermediate stage between light attack and moderate attack with penetration, whereas the pine sapwood was heavily damaged. Under the same conditions, the waterlogged beech wood was seriously damaged or completely destroyed by the termites. However, unlike the modern pine and beech wood, all the termites died after feeding on the waterlogged beech wood. In spite of the complete destruction of the waterlogged beech wood in the coercion test, it seems that under natural conditions where there is a possible choice between different wood species, the infestation by termites of waterlogged wood uncovered in archaeological work does not necessarily happen. Wood containing few nutritional substances and substantial lignin, as well as having a high moisture content facilitating the development of parasitic microorganisms, will deter termites.
The aim of the study was to estimate the acceleration of birth parameters: body length, body weight, head and chest circumference of Lublin newborns as a response to environmental changes observed since 1964 till 2001. The environmental conditions changes were characterized by: health care standards, average consumption of selected foodstuffs, furnishings, level of education and income of households. The systematic, statistically significant increase of birth length was observed within the whole studied period. Improvement of indices, expecially concerning health care, in front of an average income decrease in Lublin voivodship comparing to Poland in the same period, should be emphasized.
In the northern slope of the Carpathian Mountains and in their foreland, river and stream channels have been significantly transformed by human impact. These transformations result from changing land use in river basins and direct interference with river channels (alluvia extraction, engineering infrastructure, channel straightening). Anthropogenic impacts cause signifi cant changes in the channel system patterns leading to increased impact of erosion. This mainly leads to the channelling of the fluvial system. This article reviews studies of structure and dynamics of Carpathian river channels conducted based on the methodology of collection of data on channel systems, developed in the Department of Geomorphology of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management, Jagiellonian University.
