Following the January issue of Nouvel Observateur, the author lists a catalogue of disasters to befall the Earth in fifty years due to greenhouse effect. The phenomenon itself has been known for a century but only now millions of people realize its climatic, social, economic and political significance. The reduction of the atmospheric emissions of greenhouse gases proposed by the international community has been rejected by the main polluters, i. e. the industrialised countries, and above all the United States. Because of this, the global climatic disaster is most likely to happen. But the author concludes, „those responsible won't be able to say: we did not know what future awaits us”.
