Unemployment and its problems in the Grodno Region

Article is devoted to studying of unemployment as a negative social and economic phenomenon in the life of a society. As the growth of the given parameter conducts to the shortage of produce. The structure of the unemployed according to the sex both in Grodno region, and across Belarus specifies prevalence of ‘female’ unemployment. A problem there is employment of youth. The disturbing tendency is traced at studying the structure of the age of the unemployed: the greatest share of the unemployed falls at the most productive age of 20-29 and 30-49 years. In the small regional centers the rate of unemployment is higher than in the large cities. This is connected with an absence of workplaces, backwardness of the real sector of economy, a weak level of development of social services. Therefore the state policy of employment aspires to provide equal opportunities to all physically fit citizens of Belarus, gives social guarantees and indemnifications to the unemployed, etc.
Целью этой статьи является обоснование теоретических и методологических основ исследования эколого-экономических проблем в международной торговле. Обосновано, что такие исследования должны базироваться на двух главных теоретических основах: (1) на теории общего экономического равновесия и (2) на рассмотрении мирового хозяйства как замкнутой эколого-экономической системы, а национальной экономики - как открытой эколого-экономической системы. В рассматриваемой модели национальной эколого-экономической системы учтен внешнеэкономический фактор, что позволило анализировать национальную эколого-экономическую систему как открытую систему. В статье предложена методика выявления абсолютного и относительного преимущества страны во внешней торговле. Модель мировой эколого-экономической системы иллюстрирует замкнутость системы планетарной экономики. В планетарном масштабе все, что создается человеком, со временем становится отходами или производства (быстрее), или потребления (позже). Относительно природных ресурсов и ресурсов окружающей среды производство является процессом их перемещения в отходы производства и потребления (за исключением той части природных ресурсов, которая используется в качестве вторичного сырья). Рассмогреные методологические подходы и выводы могут быть полезными для обоснования программ устойчивого эколого-экономического развития.
Neosporosis is an infectious disease of cattle and other species with a worldwide distribution. In Poland, the seropositivity rate for N. caninum among dairy cattle varies between 6% and 80%, with the highest number of seropositive cows in central and north-eastern voivodeships. In the United States, in 2003 the total annual cost of N. caninum infections was 657 million dollars, and in Great Britain in 2014 it was nearly 14 million pounds. N. caninum results in severe economic losses caused by a decreased milk yield, an increased number of culled cows, a higher newborn calf mortality rate and occasional birth defects. However, the most common result of this disease is abortion, which usually occurs between the 5th and 7th month of gestation. The risk of aborting is 3 times as high for seropositive cows as it is for seronegative cows; up to 21.6% vs. 7.3%, respectively. Cattle can become infected by consuming food and water contaminated with N. caninum oocysts, but the principal route is transplacental transmission usually between the 70th and 210th day of gestation. The ELISA test is most often used to detect the presence of specific antibodies in blood serum. PAG-2 level in the bloodstream can be a good marker for predicting Neospora-induced abortions – in seropositive cows, a level of more than 4.5 ng/ml on the 120th day of gestation means a 7-fold higher risk of pregnancy loss. According to research, live attenuated vaccines are highly efficacious in preventing neosporosis. Unfortunately, the currently available methods of prevention are based on the elimination of seropositive cows from the herd and the limitation of contact with the final hosts of N. caninum.
Background. Bacterial contamination is a major problem for commercial fuel ethanol production in distilleries all over the world. The contaminating microorganisms produce acetic and lactic acid that has a detrimental effect on fermentation efficiency. The aim of this work was to calculate the number of bacterial contaminants in some distilleries. Moreover, in this study it was signified what kind of bacteria contaminate ethanol production process. Material and methods. Grains were obtained from five distilleries from some regions in Poland, in this work hereafter referred to as α, β, γ, δ, and ε distilleries. Corn was the raw material in the α, β, and γ distilleries, triticale in δ distillery, and rye in the ε one. From these five distilleries, sweet mashes during fermentation and after it, were also analysed. The total number of microorganisms, the number of lactic acid bacteria, the number of anaerobic bacteria and the quantity of yeasts and moulds in raw materials were calculated. Results. The number of total viable bacteria (CFU/g), lactic acid bacteria (CFU/g), anaerobic bacteria (CFU/g), moulds, and yeasts (CFU/g) occur in the samples were determined. In all distilleries tested, all groups of microorganism were present. Conclusions. The results of our study show that all tested distilleries have a lot of difficulties with microbiology pollution which leads to a decrease of ethanol production and economical problems. From the economical point of view, reduction of microbial contamination makes it possible to increase the production volume
The stability of 2 H. bovis antigens prepared by different methods was examined by the ELISA. It was found that the activity of H. bovis secretory antigen kept at - 18°C and -70° C and full antigen stored at - 18°C was significantly decreased as early as 6 months after storage. Lyophilized, secretory H. bovis antigen showed constant, high activity and may be used for one year at least.
The aim of the study was to determine the seroprevalance of Chlamydophila abortus in aborting ewes and cattle in the Kars province in the north-eastern part of Turkey. Thirty sheep flocks and 26 herds of dairy cattle out of 4 districts in the province were examined by ELISA. For this purpose, abortion cases of 236 sheep and 192 cows of different breeds and age were investigated serologically during lambing and calving season. Subsequently, the rate of abortion in ewes and cows were 10.25% (236/2302) and 28.23% (192/680), respectively. Antibodies against C. abortus were found in 46.66% (14/30) of sheep flocks and 26.92% (7/26) cattle herds examined. In the study, 13.98% (33/236) of aborted sheep and 8.33% (16/192) of cattle were positive for antibodies specific to C. abortus. Seroprevalence of C. abortus in sheep and cattle ranged from 5.40 to 18.29% and 4.76 to 12.67%, respectively. In conclusion, C. abortus causes abortion in both sheep and dairy cattle in the north-eastern part of Turkey. It is recommended that seropositive animals should be eliminated from flocks and herds. An appropriate vaccine against C. abortus should also be applied for ewes and cows to reduce the incidences of abortion.
For detection of Brucella species by PCR four DNA extraction methods and four targets were compared using pure culture of Brucella melitensis and the best conditions were applied in clinical samples. It was found that the MagNA Pure LC method was the most efficient and sensitivemethod showing a positive PCR reaction with DNA extracted from as low as 25 and 100 CFU suspended in one ml blood and one ml water, respectively. Detection of Brucella spp. by conventional PCR was investigated using four different targets. The results indicated that The B4-B5 amplification method was the most sensitive one as it could amplify DNA extracted from as a low as 25 and 100 CFU/ml suspended in one ml water and blood, respectively. Furthermore real-time PCR was able to detect Brucella using DNA extracted from as low as 50 CFU/ml blood and 15 CFU/ml water, respectively. The best and optimum detection conditions were applied to the clinical samples. Evaluation of conventional PCR assays on blood specimens confirmed 72% of the results obtained by conventional blood culture methods with a specificity of 95%, while serum samples had a sensitivity of 54% and specificity of 100%. Real-time PCR was generally found to be more sensitive and specific for detecting Brucella spp. in blood and serum samples compared to conventional PCR. The real-time PCR done on blood specimens confirmed 77.5% of the results obtained by conventional blood culture methods with specificity of 100%, while 60% of serum samples were found to be positive with specificity of 100%. These results suggest that serum and blood analysis by conventional and real time PCR is a convenient and safe method for rapid and accurate diagnosis of brucellosis.
Grassland degradation due to anthropogenic and natural factors and their interactions is one of the worldwide ecological and economic problems because it reduces grassland productivity and diversity and leads to desertification. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of protective enclosure on vegetation composition and diversity and plant biomass of an alpine degraded meadow. The experiment was conducted at center of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau with two degraded (caused by overgrazing) alpine meadows: the lightly and severely degraded ones (LD and SD) and their enclosed areas with iron net (LDE and SDE, respectively). The areas 200 m × 150 m for each of four degraded alpine meadow treatments at average altitude 3,960 m a.s.l. were set for research. The lightly degraded plots were dominated by Scirpus distigmaticus (Kukenth.) Tang et Wang, Elymus nutans Griseb. and Oxytropis ochrocephala Bunge. The dominating plants in severely degraded plots were: Artemisia sieversiana Ehrhart ex Willd, Ajania tenuifolia (Jacq.) Tzvel, Lonicera minuta Batal. The results showed: (1) the vegetation cover of two degraded plots (LD and SD) has increased after taking the enclosure measures and the forbs dominated both plots. (2) Species richness has also increased in two enclosed degraded plots, respectively. There no significant differences in evenness and diversity between LD and LDE, and SD and SDE, respectively. (3) Enclosure may promote aboveground biomass, particularly grass and forb biomass in LD, and forb biomass in SD plots.
The purpose of the study was to suppress a known natural focus of fi eld fever exerting an infl uence on animal hosts of leptospires – small terrestrial mammals (s.t.m.) by rodenticide. After repeated application of the zinc phosphide rodenticide, the s.t.m. were regularly live-trapped and checked for leptospirosis by dark-fi eld microscopy and culture of their renal tissue and serological examination. Isolated leptospira strains were typed by help of rabbit factor sera. The deratization infl uenced the s.t.m. structure considerably: the proportion of the dominant Microtus arvalis subjects – the main reservoirs of Leptospira kirschneri serovar Grippotyphosa – were gradually and substantionally reduced and, contrarily, the percentage of the potetial hosts subjects – Clethrionomys glareolus and Apodemus fl avicollis – rose decisively over time. Changes in culture and serological positivity for leptospirosis of s.t.m. have also been enregistered. The highest original infestation of M. arvalis have slowly but strongly decreased while that of C. glareolus and A. fl avicollis has increased decisively and reached its maximum within the last years of investigation. It is probable that these two animal species have undertaken the leading role in the maintenance of the natural focus of the fi eld fever. In other animal species analogous trends were not registered. Based on these long-term fi ndings, there exists the possibility to suppress only partially and temporarily the epizootic process of leptospirosis in a natural focus that can be desirable in some circumstances (building or free time activities, etc.).
