The low concentration of beryllium in waters requires the use of adequate methods for preparing the samples and adequate equipment for determining its concentration. This study presents the methodology for determining beryllium concentration in surface waters using the ICP-AES method as well as showing data that refer to the concentration of this element in surface waters from the selected monitoring points located on the Vistula, Przemsza and Klodnica Rivers.
The aim of the study was to measure the transparent exopolymer particles (TEP) concentration in cultures of Anabaena flos-aquae OL-K10 and to determine the relationship between the quantity of particles produced and the light intensity, the age of the culture and the presence of nitrogen in the culture medium. This is the first time TEP production has been investigated in the Nostocales, an order of nitrogen-fixing phytoplankton species. The results showed that TEP production depends on the presence of nitrogen in the culture medium. The longer the culture is grown, the higher the correlation between its TEP content and its chlorophyll a concentration.
The subjects were 8 clinically healthy Polish Primitive Horses at 2-9 years of age. The horses were given E.coli LPS four times, in a dose of 0.1 μg/kg.b.w.; 3 times at 24 hour intervals (LPS-1 , LPS-2, LPS-3 ), and one week after the last infusion (LPS-4). The result analysis indicated that the applied endotoxin dose caused development of tolerance mechanisms related to the platelet count. This phenomenon did not concern changes in fibrinogen concentration. The relatively high sensitivity of horses to LPS may be connected with short duration of endotoxin tolerance in this species.
The studies focused on the effect of the addition of low concentrations of glucose - a substrate that is readily subject to microbiological degradation, on the rate of biodégradation of petroleum products. Glucose in concentration 1% was introduced into mineral medium containing 3% crude oil, with or without bacterial inoculum. The rate of degradation of crude oil in the individual cultures was determined for 3 weeks. The degradation of petroleum products in liquid mineral medium reached 56% after 21 days of growth in the presence of 1% concentration of glucose. The introduction of bacteria that had been cultured earlier in the presence of petroleum products had an effect on hydrocarbon removal efficiency - in both the presence and absence of glucose, the percent reduction of crude oil was high, reaching 76 and 86, respectively, after 21 days.
Disturbances of mineral metabolism are one of the many complications observed in patients with renal failure. Fluids used in dialysotherapy may introduce elements to a patient’s body. On the other hand, some trace elements may be removed. Dialysis fluids contain chlorides of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), and potassium (K), but they may also be contaminated by toxic metals. In the first part of our work the amounts of Mg, Ca, zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe) were determined in samples of hemodialysis fluids just before and after a dialyzer. The concentration of copper (Cu), aluminium (Al), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) were measured by the atomic absorption spectrometry method (AAS) in a graphite furnace (GFAAS) in the same dialysates. The average concentration of Cu in dialysis fluids before and after dialyzer was 13.51 and 10.51 μg L-1 respectively, Al – 8.72 and 7.88 μg L-1, Pb – 24.03 and 22.81 μg L-1, Cd – 1.09 and 1.07 μg L-1, Cr – 5.91 and 6.28 μg L-1. Except for Cr (p < 0.05), the comparison of concentrations of all the measured elements before and after haemodialysis did not show any significant differences. Positive significant correlations between the element concentration before and after a dialyzer were found for Al (r = 0.33030 and Cd (r = 0.7496). In the samples of dialysis fluids of patients who had been dialyzed for less than one year, a negative balance of elements was found, except Pb. The balance was positive in patients who had been dialyzed for more than a year. Our findings also show statistically significant negative correlation between duration of dialysis treatments and Al concentration. Statistically, the examined dialysis fluids seem to be safe for dialyzed patients. However, individual data show that it is important to control elemental levels in dialyzates used for many years to prevent some complications in these patients.
 Natural and synthetic derivatives of benzo-γ-pyrones (i.e. flavones, chromones, and coumarins) and their synthetic analogues possess a wide range of biological properties in vitro and in vivo. In this paper we investigated the influence of two hydrazone compounds of chromones, 3-{[(2-dimethoxytiophosphoryl)-2-methylhydrazono]-methyl}-chromen-4-one (CH-3) and 2-amino-6-chloro-3-[(2-hydroxyethyl)-hydrazonomethyl]-chromen-4-one (A-12), on lipid peroxidation and bFGF concentration in the HL-60 cells. Both of the studied compounds had a significant influence on bFGF and TBARS in ranges -137.20 ~ 380.26% and -81.66 ~ -28.68%, respectively, in comparison with the control (counted as 0 %).
The article presents data for the prices of good, medium and low land from 1999 to 2012. In addition to the price of land, direct subsidies are also considered. Direct subsidies have been taken into account in accordance with the award period 2004-2012. The data used in this analysis come from the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARMA). The aim of this study was to compare the diversity of spatial concentration of agricultural land prices in the years 1999-2012, taking the quality of land and direct subsidies into account. In order to obtain spatial concentration of agricultural land prices, the spatial Gini coefficient was calculated. For sake of comparison, the study was also based on the classical Gini coefficient.
In the paper the main change in the brewery sector have been presented. It connected with production, price and cosumtions. More precise the situatin in Hungary was showed. The Authors stated that the process of concentration was ended and the economic situation of the brewewry sector are growing.
