In the initial stages of the long-term swimmers’ training, the age-related functional capability of athletes should be taken into account. The improvement of young swimmer’ skills should be done in terms of an integrated approach to the promotion of physical fitness. The article presents the results of the study of aerobic and anaerobic capacity of 11–12-year-old swimmers under the condition of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), the maximum amount of external mechanical work for 10s (VanT10), 30s (VanT30), 60s (MKMMD). For the scientific substantiation of the expediency of implementing the method of interval hypoxic training and elements of aquafitness in the training process of 11–12 year-old swimmers, it is necessary to investigate the indexes of functional preparedness of 11–12 year-old swimmers, depending on their gender. It has been found out that the level of aerobic productivity of the boys’ bodies equals “good”, and the girls’ – “excellent” according to Y.P. Pyarnat. Elements of aquafitness and interval hypoxic training are recommended to be applied to improving aerobic and anaerobic capacity of swimmers at the stage of initial basic training.
Beta genus belonging to Chenopodiaceae family consists of four very morphologically and genetically differentiated sections: Beta, Corollinae, Procumbentes and Nanae. Wild Beta species are important as a source of genes resistant to diseases, pests and abiotic factors. The paper presents collecting, documenting, evaluating and preserving genetic resources of the Beta genus. At present, in the gene bank of the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources at Radzików there are 530 accessions: 112 sugar beet, 386 fodder beet and 32 accessions of wild beet. Accessions have been obtained from national breeding institutions mainly and in the way of exchange among beet collections and foreign research laboratories. The material received from international expeditions (local populations) is also of great interest. The collection is being increased by 10-30 accessions every year. All collected materials were evaluated and statistical data analyzed and documented according to the international standards for Beta genus. Utilization of the collection materials is determined by the main trends in breeding and research. In the last years some of the accessions were evaluated for two economically important beet diseases: Aphanomyces cochlioides DRECHSLER and Cercospora beticola Sacc. At present, an attempt is made to select some accessions tolerant to drought stress. Also fast progress in tissue culture technique and genetic engineering gave a new chance for germplasm utilization. On the basis of collected materials five fodder beet cultivars were obtained (Magdalena, Juta, Jarko, Jaspis and Jawor, cvs).
In the years 1999-2005, in the 3-year cycles, the valorisation of 72 local cultivars of the genus Phaseolus originating from Poland, the Slovak Republic and Ukraine was carried out. The works included 5 cultivars of runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.) and 67 cultivars of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). It was found that 16 accessions had a climbing type of growth, 4 - flagellate form and 52 - dwarf ones. All runner beans were climbing. Out of the climbing type cultivars, 6 were snap beans with green pods, whereas the other were dry seed type plants. The flagellate cultivars included 1 for green pods and 3 for dry seeds. The dwarf cultivars included, except the ones destined for dry seeds a 4 snap bean cultivars were found: 1 with yellow pods and 3 with green ones. The valorised cultivars showed variability in such characteristics as: yield per plant, 1000 seeds weight, shape and colour of seeds.
