The effect of chronic treatment with fermented milk products containing bioactive tripeptides and plant sterols on blood pressure and vascular function was investigated in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Six-weeks old male SHR (n=36) were randomized into 4 groups by body weight and blood pressure to receive either Lactobacillus helveticus fermented standard milk product (containing tripeptides Ile-Pro-Pro, Val-Pro-Pro and Leu-Pro-Pro), test product with enzymatically produced tripeptides without or with plant sterols or control product without the active constituents for 8 weeks. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) was measured weekly using the tail-cuff method. Thoracic aorta and mesenteric artery were excised for vascular response measurements. At the end, SBP values vs. control product group were: standard product group -14 mmHg (P<0.05), test product group -12 mmHg and test product +sterols group -7 mmHg. The average daily tripeptide dose was 2.8-5.2 mg/kg. Total serum cholesterol in the test product +sterols group tended to be lower than in the test product group (P=0.10) whereas serum plant sterol (campesterol, sitosterol) concentrations were higher (P<0.001). In conclusion, bioactive tripeptide-containing milk products attenuated the blood pressure development in SHR. The plant sterols did not improve this effect. Vascular responses did not markedly differ between the groups, except that endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) -related aortic relaxation was demonstrated in the test product +sterols group.
The experiment studied the synergetic effect of casein and its enzymatic hydrolysate in combination with ascorbic acid and beta-carotene in slowing down the oxidation of linoleic acid in model oxidation systems. The obtained results indicate that the antioxidant efficiency of applied antioxidants depends on the type of the system in which the lipid oxidation occurs and from the mechanism of oxidation (autooxidation, photosensitization, oxidation by lipooxygenase). For the applied preparations the best antioxidant activities were obtained for emulsion system of linoleic acid in the reaction of the autooxidation, where the co-operation between antioxidants of different physical properties and mechanisms of the antioxidant action in various emulsion phases was possible
Polymorphism in the β-LG gene in the Indian goat was investigated by the SDS-PAGE and PCR-RFLP method. SDS-PAGE was carried out in 1098 samples belonging to 8 different breeds of Indian goats. The electrophoretic pattern in the β-LG locus showed the presence of AA and AB genotypes with frequencies of 0.81 and 0.19,0.89 and 0.11, 0.50 and 0.50, 0.80 and 0.20, 0.84 and 0.16, 1.00 and 0.00, 0.98 and 0.02 and 0.950 and 0.050 in Jamunapari, Barbari, Marwari, Sirohi, Jakhrana, Beetal, Local UP and Local MP goats, respectively. A total of 358 individuals belonging to 13 different genetic groups were analyzed by the PCR-RFLP method. The amplified product was observed as 426 bp and the restriction digestion with SacII revealed three genotypes, namely S₁S₁, S₁S₂ and S₂S₂ at the β-LG locus. The frequency of the S₂S₂ genotype ranged from 0.42 to 1.00 in the population. An analysis was carried out in Jamunapari and Barbari goats to observe the effect of the β-LG genotype on 90-day milk yield. Least squares analysis of data showed that β-LG AA animals had higher milk yield than the β-LG AB genotype in both breeds (P < 0.01).
The intrabreed and interbreed genetic diversity of Lithuanian cattle breeds - two native, namely Lithuanian Light Grey and Lithuanian White-Backed and two modern, namely Lithuanian Red and Lithuanian Black and White was investigated by determination of genetic markers: 4 milk protein systems, Alphass1-casein, Kappa-casein, Beta-casein and Beta-lactoglobulin, which are comprised of 12 different milk protein types. According to results, the B type of Alphasl-casein was found as predominant in all four studied breeds. The most common A and B types of Kappa-casein were found at high frequency in all investigated cattle breeds. All investigated Lithuanian dairy cattle breeds had high frequency of Beta-lactoglobulin whey protein B types, with the highest frequency in Lithuanian Red breed, and the lowest in Lithuanian Light Grey. After investigation the diversity of alleles and genotypes of milk proteins in Lithuanian dairy cattle breeds was determined that, Lithuanian Red breed was distinguished private C allele and BC genotype of Beta-lactoglobulin and CC genotype of Alphasl-casein. The interbreed genetic diversity was estimated by a principal component analysis (PCA). The first principal component (PC) explains 63.39% and the second principal component (PC) explains 33.67% of the genetics diversity between the breeds. Principal component analysis, suggests the hypothesis that native Lithuanian White Backed and Lithuanian Light Grey breeds still have traits tracing to old native populations.
A bacteriocin divercin was produced in batch cultures by Carnobacterium divergens. The bacteria were grown in the liquid MRS media containing enzymatic hydrolysates of whey, casein or malt roots as organic nitrogen sources. The divercin production was greatly affected by the medium composition. The highest divercin activity (12,800 AU/mL), measured by the critical dilution assay using C. piscicola as an indicatory microorganism, was obtained in the medium containing whey, casein hydrolysates, and glucose. Omission of glucose in this medium delayed the divercin biosynthesis only for 5 h. The medium developed was more efficient than the MRS medium used commonly for the bacteriocin production.

Целью соответствующего опыта было сравнение результатов откорма свиней с использованием кормосмеси составленной из ячменя с примесью мясной и костной муки или казеина (класса II или III) как источников белка. Количество белковых прибавок отвечало польскому стандарту кормления сельскохозяйственных животных. Опыт охватывал 224 помесных свиней держимых в станках (7 голов на станок). Не наблюдались существенные различия в средних привесах и в использовании кормов между опытными группами. Результаты убойного выхода 36 свиней (по 12 голов в группе) не показывали существенных различий между группами. Результаты опыта позволили констатировать, что казеин II-го и III-го класса и мясная н костная мука отеoественного производства характеризуются сравнительно хорошими кормовыми достоинствами как белковые прибавки в ячменю в рационах для растущих поросят.
