In the years 1992-94 studies were carried out on the occurrence of the broad bean weevil at the broad bean plantations and evaluation of the effect of insecticidal seed dressings upon this pest. The first beetles of the broad bean weevil begin their flight over the plantation before plant flowering (the 3rd decade of May, the 1st decade of June). A maximum of the laid out eggs was noted in the 2nd and 3rd decades of July. The best effects of the pest control were obtained by applying the insecticidal seed dressing Gaucho 350 FS-and by spraying plants at the pod setting phase with insecticide Karate 025 EC. The performed treatments reduced the seed damage of field bean by, on average, 16.6% and increased the yield by, on average, 0,62 t per ha.
In the years 1992-1994, studies were carried out on the occurrence, harmfulness and chemical control of the broad bean weevil on broad bean crops at different dates. A maximum of the beetle occurrence on the plantation under study was noted in III decade of June and in I decade of July. Seed damages caused by this pest ranged from 31.3 to 45.7%. The best time for the broad bean weevil control on broad bean was in the stage of pod formation. The application of the insecticide Karate 025 EC at the rate of 0.3 dm³/ha caused limitation of seed damages, on the average, by 19. 7%, which gave a mean yield gain of 0.3 4 t/ha.
The object of the research was susceptibility of field bean to grain damage caused by larvae of Bruchus rufimanus Boh. The research was conducted in 2005–2007. Field experiments were designed with standard randomized block in four replications including 8 field bean cultivars. The highest percentage of damaged grain was recorded on the cultivar Martin 25.6% in 2005, and on cultivars Martin and Bobas in 2006, respectively 27.2 and 22.7%. In 2007 the highest grain damage 79% was shown on the cultivar Bobas. The lowest percentage rame of grain damage was recorded on the cultivar Leo in 2005 and 2006 amounted to 2.2 and 7.2% respectively, and in 2007 on cultivars Leo 40.2% and Nadwiślański 42.0%. The average yield of field bean ranged from 27.6 to 65.5 dt/ha in the analyzed period of the rescarch.
