Polymorphic blood image of the horses was used to determine genetic distances between groups of horses of different colour. The study covered 1247 half–bred horses, for which the polymorphism of albumin (Al), transferrin (Tf), alkaline esterase (EspH 8.5), vitamin D binding protein (Gc) and Xk protein were determined. The analysis of genetic distance demonstrated that the studied groups of horses were considerably genetically separated depending on the colour. This allows concluding that there is an association between genetic polymorphism of some blood proteins and the coat colour of horses.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the serum protein electrophoresis pattern in dogs infected with B. canis, and correlation between haematocrit and albumin/globulin ratio. The infection with B. canis was confirmed by PCR and sequencing of PCR products. Total serum protein concentrations were determined by a clinical chemistry analyser. Albumin, α₁-, α₂-, β₁-, β₂-, and γ-globulin concentrations were assayed by densitometric analysis after electrophoretic separation of serum proteins on agarose gel. The most common disorders in affected dogs were decreased α-globulin fractions, increased ß-globulin concentration, increased albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio, and hypoglobulinaemia. A decrease in ar and α₂-globulin concentration was detected accordingly in 54.8% and 32.3% of dogs. An increase in β₁- and β₂-globulin concentration, and increased A/G ratio was detected accordingly in 38.7%, 51.6%, and 38.7% of dogs. Hypoglobulinaemia was detected in 32.3% dogs. Changes detected in this study probably result from haemolysis, hypertransferrinaemia, increased C3a protein concentration (complement), and dehydration.
The changes in some blood biochemical parameters were studied in the freshwater fish N. notopterus under saline exposure for a longer period of 30 days. The blood biochemical parameters are glucose, protein, triglycerides and cholesterol. All these parameters exhibited increased level except of blood glucose which remained unchanged as observed after the termination of saline exposure. Thus it indicates that although fish survives and able to tolerate extreme saline condition as there was no mortality during the exposure period. The increase of blood biochemical parameters can be considered as a kind of saline stress response particularly on lipid derivatives.
Based on protein polymorphism and results obtained with RAPD-PCR and ISSR-PCR methods, the domestic and wild Artiodactyla and Perissodactyla (14 and 7 species, respectively) were compared. The marker-specific species differentiation in domestic and wild species was observed, leading to the hypothesis of the “subgenome” existing in domestic species. It is assumed that “subgenome” contains certain genes encoding important proteins and enzymes. In the past, the high variation of “subgenome” could play an essential role in domestication, leading to the wide morphological differentiation of contemporary domestic species.
