Antioxidant defence system (activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione peroxidase), and free radical modification of lipids were determined in the gills from male and female brown trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta L.) affected by ulcerative dermal necrosis (UDN). In both males and females, lipid oxidation in the gills from UDN-affected trout showed higher values as compared to the respective control. UDN induced an increase of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels both in the gills of males and females. UDN caused a decrease in gill antioxidant enzyme activities. This might be due to inactivation of the abovementioned enzymes by the end products of lipid peroxidation. The importance of the glutathionemediated antioxidant defence system in protection against UDN-induced oxidative stress was demonstrated.

We prepared insulin-liposomes using one combination of lipids including phosphatidylcholine (cholesterol) stearylamine, 7/2/1 (molar ratio). Non-sonicated liposomes (LMV) and sonicated liposomes (SUV) contained about 20% and 5% of insulin, respectively. Free insulin was removed from liposomes-associated insulin by ultracentrifugation, or ultrafdtration on Sepharose 6B column. Insulin preparations were administered parenterally and non-parenterally into male, Wistar rats with alloxan diabetes to produce the hypoglycaemia. In case of i.v. and s.e. routes of administration all preparations acted in the similar manner giving the clear hypoglycaemia after 2 h. When administered intragastrically only liposome insulin caused hypoglycaemia. In case of buccal and nasal routes of administration only SUV-insulin was effective.

Responses (knock-down and mortality) of large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L.) beetles to insecticides of different mechanism of action such as neonicotinoids (clotianidin, acetamiprid) acting on nicotinic receptors of acetylcholine (ACh), pyrethroids (deltamethrin, α-cypermethrin) blocking sodium channels in nerve cell membranes, organophosphates (chlorpiryfos) and carbamates (carbosulfan) both inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity and fenylpirazoles (fipronil) interfering with γ-butyric acid (GABA) receptors were studied. Taking into account speed of insect decay the order of examined groups of substances may be established as follows: first place is occupied by insecticides interferring with GABA receptors, second place by insecticides blocking AChE activity, and third place in parallel insecticides blocking sodium channels and those acting on nicotinic receptors of ACh.

Ocena skutków czterodniowej awarii w okresie letnim obejmowała wpływ mikroklimatu na trzy grupy indyków białych szerokopierśnych o różnej wartości hodowlanej i różnej końcowej masie ciała: 1) J-22 (czysty ród ciężki), 2) J-34 (mieszaniec dwurodowy lekki), 3) WAMA-1 (mieszaniec trzyrodowy średniociężki). Zmniejszenie wentylacji w czasie awarii spowodowało w budynku wzrost temperatury i wilgotności, spadek prędkości ruchu powietrza i ochładzania. Podwyższeniu uległo również stężenie CO2 i NH3 oraz zapylenie powietrza. Wszystkie wartości mikroklimatu były niezgodne z zaleceniami zoohigienicznymi. U indyków zaobserwowano objawy stresu cieplnego - spadek spożycia paszy i zmianę zachowania się ptaków. Bardziej wrażliwe na pogorszenie się warunków mikroklimatu okazały się indyki J-22 niż J-34 i WAMA-1.
