Проведен анализ условий, влияющих на энергосбережение в кабинах сельскохозяйственных машин.
The aim of our study was determine torpor use in the Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) tested in a wide gradient of ambient temperatures (Ta). Experiments were done on fed and food-deprived animals acclimated to winter-like and summer-like conditions. We found that neither fed nor unfed hamsters acclimated to winter-like or summer-like conditions selected low Ta's and entered torpor. Instead, food deprivation led to selection of higher Ta's and slight lowering of body temperature (Tb), especially during the rest-phase of the day. Our calculations show that this strategy may lead to higher energy savings than torpor would. We argue that torpor use is not a fixed strategy but is determined primarily by a thermal conditions available in the environment.
Ambient temperature and relative humidity are two crucial climatic factors that heavily influence poultry production and management. Knowledge of the period during which the environmental conditions remains detrimental is crucial for successful and economic poultry production and resource management. The objective of the study is to identify and comparatively assess the most crucial months/periods during which the climatic condition hinder normal performance of dual purpose Vanaraja poultry in topographically and agro-climatically distinct locations. The average monthly temperatures and humidity of each location were compared with established critical limits of ambient temperature and relative humidity that influence poultry for the location. Results reveal that there are wide inter-location variations in sensitive period during the year and affect the performance of the introduced poultry with varied intensity. Also the cultural & management practices should be location-specific with incorporation of need-based seasonal modification leading to optimum resource use. With critical periods in mind farmers can adopt/frame appropriate and well-timed management practices to alleviate impact of adverse environmental conditions.
Birds may occasionally breed far beyond the average breeding time for particular species. Nesting attempts in winter during unfavorable weather and unfavorable environmental conditions, however, are particularly rare events. In this note I report an unsuccessful attempt of a Blackbird Turdus merula L. observed in January, 2009 in SW Poland. The clutch was abandoned at the final stage of incubation. Unlike other reported cases, it had been started on the outskirts of an average-sized town, in a period of harsh weather– low ambient temperature and snow cover present. This is the first winter brood of this species recorded in Poland and probably the easternmost in Europe. It is suggested that winter breeding by Blackbirds may occur more regularly and in wider areas than previously reported.
