An attempt has been made to determine the quality of the atmospheric air (n= 176 samples) and soil (n = 54 samples) at the base of co-occurrence of Pb, Zn, Ni, Cu, Cd, Cr, Co, and Mn in Szczyrk town and environs. Several sources of pollution: the steel mills in Triniec, the Upper Silesian Industrial Centre and Bielsko-Biała town can influence the air and soil in Szczyrk, but the main local source of Ą pollution is the traffic car. Two measurement zones: a busy street (200 cars/h) and areas situated far from the centre (Jaworzyna-Skrzyczne, the Karkoszczonki Pass and Klimczok) are distinguished. The analysis of variance ANOVA (p<0.05) shows significant differences of the mean concentration of metals in the air Pb, Ni, Cd, Zn, Co, Mn and Cr between these zones. In the case of soil significant differences between two zones are found only for Pb, Cd, Zn, Co and Mn. The correlation matrix and the cluster analysis were used to explain the relation between metals in the air and soil.
