Subject and purpose of work: The subject of this study is the region of Eastern Slovakia. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the impact of tourism on regional development. To analyse the influence of tourism facilities on regional development selected indicators of tourism development are used. Materials and methods: The material consists of data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic and selected municipalities. The data are processed by methods of descriptive statistics. Results and conclusions: The article explains the importance of tourism in the development of the Eastern Slovakia region. Based on the analysis of economic impacts of tourism on the regional development we can conclude that tourism has minimal effects on this region.

The authors pay attention to an occurrence of the taxon Ceratophyllus sciurorum sciurorum (Schrank, 1803) (Siphonaptera) in Slovakia during the whole season. The curve of occurrence this taxon of fleas has showed two high points. The first top has been achieved in April and second one followed in October. In December the authors have noticed a period and named it "cocoon block". This course of the curve has been found at the species from family Myoxidae, mostly. On the other hand, the course of curve of the birdboxes nesters has the opossite position, the high points have been recorded in autumn. A conspicuous differences has been probably caused by different biology of nesters of Myoxidae and birds in boxes. The ratio of males to females these ecological groups of hosts was different, too.

Within the framework of the research on the issue, we started form the existing functional organizational structures and tax administration systems not only in Slovakia, but also in Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia, whereas the fundamental assumption of the investigation was increased efficiency of the system as a whole. On the basis of a trend analysis we assume that the upcoming reform of the tax and customs administration will significantly contribute to an increased efficiency of the system and, eventually, to a positive perception of taxes as socially unpopular obligations.

This paper analyses the use of roundwood among the SR major competitors in the EU. The analysis compared the calculated variables on production and consumption of different roundwood assortments in the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Austria and Finland. To ensure comparability, individual index methods are applied to the volume of import on production and consumption and export consumption over the period of five years. The results show different development of roundwood utilisation in analysed countries.

Wood pellets are a high comfortable homogeneous fuel, which is wonderfully wellkept and it regulates the heat. Heating using wood pellets is a real alternative to normal (fossil) fuels and comfort is close to heating with natural gas. The main aim of the paper is to present the possibilities of calculation method in wood processing industry in Slovakia specializing in the production of wood pellets.

Tax burden expresses how high is the tax ratio or what part of gross domestic product is created by paid taxes and contributions. This article presents data on tax revenue and its relationship to gross domestic product in Slovakia and the European Union. Data of Eurostat and OECD Tax Database serve as the base for analysis, the reporting period presents years 2002–2011.
