From the Roztocze - an upplandisch region in southern-eastern Poland and in western Ukraine - 56 species of Orthopteraare recorded, among them some rare in Central Europe: Poecilimon ukrainicus, Podisma pedestris, Stauroderus scalaris. The most characteristic feature of the regional fauna is a coexistence of boreal-montane species and South-European ones.
The results of faunistic studies on Orthoptera fauna of the Tatra Mountains and the Podhale region in Poland are presented. The material of Orthoptera collected in 2008 and 2009 contained 24 species. The review of the material from the earlier collections stored in MIZ PAS in Warsaw and ISEA PAS in Cracow as well as the field notes made in the 1950's and 1960's by Polish entomologist Władysław Bazy luk, showed that 32 Orthoptera species were noted in total from the study regions. Comparison of data collected at different times spanning more than a century shows the dynamics of change in the Polish part of theTatra National Park fauna.
Author gives the first record of steppen bush-cricket species Phaneroptera falcata in Middle Pomerania (Słupsk vicinity), and summarize data about its range in the East Europe.
The family Prophalangopsidae is ancestral for two large Recent superfamilies: Tettigonioidea and Stenopelmatoidea. This family is known from the Early Jurassic, and it is divided into 5 fossil (including one new) and one Recent subfamilies. The partial revision of their generic composition shows that this family was most numerous and diverse in the Early Cretaceous of temperate zone of Old World, but this information is only preliminary. The mode of life of fossil Prophalangopsidae (Recent forms are practically not studied) was more or less similar to that of some Recent Stenopelmatoidea and Tettigonioidea, but with important distinctions connected with somewhat different type of function of the tegminal stridulatory apparatus. The main possible trends in evolution of this apparatus are (1) the displacement of stridulatory areas at the base of tegmina accompanied by their partial reduction and the improvement of cryptic appearance of male during stridulation, and (2) the significant increase of these areas accompanied by deterioration of male cryptic appearance during stridulation. The origin of Stenopelmatoidea and Tettigonioidea from Prophalangopsidae is a possible result of analogous processes
Grasshoppers and katydids (Orthoptera) were studied on sand dunes of the Hel Peninsula in northern Poland in 2013. Altogether, 11 species of grasshoppers and katydids were identified, three of them can be regarded as elements of the fauna characteristic for sand dunes. Species diversity and population density was higher in the seaside with sparse vegetation than in the neighboring pine forest. The reported low species richness is comparable to other peninsula covered by sand. Myrmeleotettix maculates was most abundant, particularly by the seaside with low shrubs and Tetrix bipuncata occurred frequently in each habitat, but especially on the forest gaps.
