The purpose of this study has been to characterize the ichthyofauna of the Upper Wkra River during the initial stage of the implementation and execution of revitalization of the Nida River in the commune of Nidzica. The study covered a nearly 5-km-long section of river flowing across the commune of Nidzica. Four sites of control catches were localized between the administrative border to the town of Nidzica and a water-raising fixed weir (h=1.40 m) in the village called Borowy Młyn. In the fish assemblage, dominated by three- and ninespined stickleback, nine species in total were observed. By referring to the available research results, it can be concluded that no significant quantitative or qualitative changes occurred in the structure of the inchthyofauna from 2001 to 2008. One of the factors which limit the process of natural regeneration of the fish population is the fact that the analyzed section of the river is cut off from the remaining part of the Wkra River and its tributaries.

Studies on riverbed evolution on the Nida river at the Pinczow and Wislica gauging station

The long-term evolution of the river beds of Nida River in Pińczów and Wiślica gauging station as well as an analysis of the causes of significant cases of lowering of the bottom of stream beds are presented in the paper. The intensity of river bed evolution as a stochastic process is described with the use of a statistical model. The analysis of the intensity of the process of river bed erosion was conducted under the assumption that the observed long-term trend of the lowest annual water levels reflect the elevation of the river bottom in the same years. The recorded observations at the Pińczów and Wiślica gauging stations on the Nida River, covering over 70-year period of time, are analyzed. Observations of the variability in the studied bottom levels over the decades allow concluding that the great transformation of riverbeds occurred there. The observations and calculations show that in Pińczów multistream or meandering river bed changed into straight channel and the process of shallowing of the river bed appeared. At the Wiślica gauging station the process of riverbed erosion with the variable intensity was observed. The research shows that the causes of these changes observed in Pińczów and Wiślica are not natural, but rather of human activity.

Rzeka Nida płynie w województwie świętokrzyskim po obszarach zagospodarowanych przeważnie rolniczo. W chwili obecnej stwarza w dolnym biegu duże zagrożenie powodziowe, m.in. ze względu na brak małej retencji, która może być dostępna po likwidacji zbędnych obwałowań przeciwpowodziowych. Obliczono wpływ zwiększenia retencji poprzez otwarcie doliny na odcinku od Rębowa do Pińczowa na bezpośrednio poniżej leżące obszary Nidy nieuregulowanej. Za pomocą programu HEC-RAS wykonano obliczenia zasięgu zalewu 10,3 km odcinka rzeki. W tym celu przygotowano 103 przekroje poprzeczne odległe od siebie o średnio 100 m. Symulację wykonano dla szerokiego zakresu przepływów od 1m3 · s–1 do Q1% .

Fifteen new localities of the Ukrainian brook lamprey, Lampetra (Eudontomyzon) mariae, were found within 2008–2010. The majority of them are located in the Nida River drainage. Additionally, the occurrence of that species in the Strwiąż River, a tributary of the Dniester, was confirmed. The cluster analysis performed suggests, that L. mariae exhibits strong affinity to the stone loach, Barbatula barbatula, and the Eurasian minnow, Phoxinus phoxinus. We believe that the distribution of L. mariae on the territory of Poland seems to be strongly underestimated.
