Forest dieback in the Izerskie Mountains due to industrial pollution is less rapid as in the 1980-s. What is particularly threatening at present are wild animals, mainly deer, which are eating up newly growing trees. Without their natural enemies these wild animals have exceeded capacity of the habitat. Hunting associations do not accept that ecological balance has been upset by an excessive number of animals. Unless the number of deer is reduced, it will not be possible to restore the forests.
