Tragediana chusqueae gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Andes and Nahuelbuta mountains in the south central zone of Chile. The genus is associated with Chusquea Kunth (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), and is characterized in part by having completely paired carinae on eumetope, a feature present in only a few genera among Delphacini.
The paper contains data on 58 species of planthopppers and leafhoppers collected in the seected plant communities of the Forest Park of Katowice during 2003. Macrosteles ossiannilssoni LlNDBERG, 1954, Macrosteles viridigriseus (EDWARDS, 1924) and Rbopalopyx adumbrata (SAHLBERG, 1842) are species new to the fauna of Upper Silesia.
Auchenorrhyncha represents a group of sucking herbivores belonging to the hemipterans. They are an important component of terrestrial ecosystems, many species feed on a certain plant genus or even on one single plant species. In Poland, 514 species of Auchenorrhyncha have been recorded so far. From this number 135 species are recognized as rare, found only in a few places. Four species: Cicadetta montana (scop.), Cicadetta podolica (elchw.), Aphrophora major uhler and Aphrophora similis Leth. are endangered and should be protected. We suggest preserving xerothermic swards for Cicadetta montana and C. podolica, peatbogs and marshes for Aphrophora major and A. similis. A short morphological, ecological and chorological characteristics of these species are also given.
In 2008–2009 on ornamental grasses in nurseries and the Botanical Garden in Bydgoszcz eighteen species of the Auchenorrhyncha and fifteen species of Heteroptera were found. The most numerous were: Javesella pellucida (F.), Psammotettix confinis (Dhlb.), Stenocranus major (Kbm.) and Macrosteles laevis (Ribaut) (Auchenorrhyncha) and Trigonotylus caelestialium (Kirk) and Stenodema laevigata (L.) belonging to Heteroptera.
During the field research in various phytocenoses of Sosnowiec city in year 2002, altogether 98 species of planthoppers and leafhoppers, which constitute 19% of Polish fauna were found. The new species for Upper Silesia are: Eurybregma negrolineata SCOTT, 1875, Arboridia erecta (RIBAUT, 1931), Arboridia velata (RlBAUT, 1952), Doratura impudica HORVÁTH, 1897, Mocydiopsis attenuata (GERMAR, 1821). Moreover two species: Backlutha calama-grostis OSSIANNILSSON, 1961, and Doliotettix lunulatus (ZETTERSTEDT, 1840) were confirmed as still present in Upper Silesian region.
The last checklist of planthoppers and leafhoppers of Poland was published in 1990 by NAST.&CHUDZICKA and comprised 503 species (about 28% of the European fauna of this group). Compared to the first checklist from 1976, 10 species were omitted because the data on their occurrence in Poland were doubtful. These are Anaceratagallia frisia (WAGN.), Tremulicerus vitreus (F.), Micantulina micantula (ZETT..), Eurhadina untica Dlab., Euperyx curtisii FL, Zygina pruni Edw., Hardya signifer (THEN), Mocydiopsis parvicauda (RIB.), Ebarrius interstinctus (FlEB.) and Cosmotettix costalis (Fall). Moreover, 25 species were added as new to Polish fauna. Since that time a few additional taxa have been found in Poland, such as Speudotettix montanus GEB. ET SZWEDO. (species known only from southeastern Poland), Tremulicerus vitreus (F.), Eupteryx immaculatifrons (KEM.), Balclutha calamagrostis Oss.., Bugraria ocularis (M. et R.), Streptanus ogumae MATS., Cicadella lasiocarpae OSS. and Cicadula longiventris (J. SHLB.). In this paper we present three leafhopper species new to Poland, i.e. Alebra viridis Rey (earlier as a subspecies of Alebra albostriella (FALL.)), Ribautiana alces (RIB.) and Macrosteles alpinus (ZETT.). For Cosmotettix costalis (FALL.) and Micantulina micantula (ZETT.) we give first true records of the species. As a result of this the Polish fauna of planthoppers and leafhoppers contains 515 species at this time. Additionally, we describe new foundings of 9 taxa being rare: Euides basilinea (GERM..), Struebingianella lugubrina (BOH.), Cicadella lasiocarpae OSS., Ribautiana scalaris (RIB.), Arboridia ribauti (OSS.), Arboridia velata (RIB.), Elymana kozhevnikovi (ZACHV.), Doliotettix lunulatus (ZETT.) and Metalimnus formosus (BOH.). We also publish the records of Neophilaenus infumatus (HPT.) from Poland which were overlooked in NAST 1976 and take the notice of an interesting form of Anoscopus albifrons (L.) with pigmentation of the body and male copulatory organs resembling Anoscopus limicola (EDW.). For each species taxonomic, biogeographical and ecological data are also provided.
The planthopper and leafhopper communities inhabiting various plant assemblages covering coal-mine dumps in the vicinities of Ruda Śląska city and Mikołów city (Upper Silesia, Poland; UTM CA46) are described. Plots , are described in details, with plant species and phytosociological groupment given, if possible. Dynamics of planthoppers and leafhoppers populations, dominance structure and diversity indices, constancy index are described and analyzed. Chorological composition, as well as ecological content of communities are discussed. Species composition similarity indices are also analyzed. List of 109 species recorded in analyzed plots is given. Two species recorded are new to Polish fauna: Mocydiopsis parvicauda RIB. and Psammotettix dubius OSS., and 15 species are new to fauna of Upper Silesia region: Cixius distinguendus KMB, Tachycixius pilosus (Ol.), Delphacodes venosus (germ.), Javesella salina (hpt), Oncopsis carpini (j. shlb.), Tremulicerus tremulae (estl.), Zyginidia scutellaris (h.-S.), Macrosteles sordidipennis (StAl), Doratura impudica horv., Rbytistylus proceps (KMB), Rhopalopyx preyssleri (H.-S.), Ophiola russeola (FALL.), Arocephalus languidus (FL.), Psammotettix sabulicola (Curt.) and Mocuellus metrius (Fl.).
Thirty eight species of 3 families of Auchenorrhyncha have been recorded from glades.
The paper presents a summary of the knowledge about species of planthoppers and leafhoppers recorded from the mountains of Poland. Faunistic composition of particular mountain chains, as well as chorological and ecological composition is presented and analyzed.
This paper reports on the species of Fulgoromorpha and Cicadomorpha stored in the collection of the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom. Most of the specimens found have been collected in Silesia; few others collected in other regions of Poland (including species from territories outside of recent border but formerly in Poland) are listed with locality data provided. The species identified are listed and briefly commented. The species firstly recorded from Upper Silesia are: Cixius simplex (H.-S.), Myndus musivus Germ., Kelisia ribauti Wagn., Javesella stali (METO.), Ribautodelphax angulosus (RIB.), Dictyophara europaea (L.) and Tettigometra leucophaea (preys.).
Species composition, abundance and structure of leafhopper communities of pine canopies have been analysed in a selected pine forest sere in Puszcza Białowieska and compared to communities from other Polish pine forests (Puszcza Biała, Bory Tucholskie). A significant transformation of leafhopper communities, consisting mostly in changes in the structure of dominance and abundance, has been shown to occur between the pole wood and mature stand stage. On the other hand, the species composition of pine canopy leafhopper communities does not depend on the geographical location and age of the stand.
