Cave Draconarius spiders in China were rarely reported. In the present paper, seven new Draconarius species collected from caves in China are described and illustrated. They are D. auriformis sp. nov., D. brachialis sp. nov., D. tongi sp. nov., D. ovillus sp. nov., D. specialis sp. nov., D. spirallus sp. nov. and D. tubercularis sp. nov. Distribution maps of Draconarius spiders are provided.
The early ceratopsians Psittacosaurus and Protoceratops have provided important information on dinosaurian development because of abundant specimens of adults, subadults, juveniles, and even hatchlings. Here we present new data and methods for identifying key growth stages from bone histology. Previous studies on Psittacosaurus lujiatunensis from the Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota of China did not present in-depth analysis of growth patterns. Based on a histological study of 43 thin sections from 17 individuals of this species, we recognize four histological ontogenetic stages, i.e., hatchling, juvenile, sub-adult, and adult, but no fully-grown stage. We estimate life history and longevity from diaphyseal growth line counts and other features of histology. We show that P. lujiatunensis grew fast in early stages (hatchling, juvenile, and subadult), according to the density of vascular canals and the different type of bone tissue; the deposition of parallel fibred bone tissue in the outer cortex of the subadult stage indicates that growth rate was slowing down. We introduce a new graphical method to estimate the occurrence and volumes of vascular canals from thin sections more accurately than current two-dimensional approaches.
This paper studies the characteristics of marine water quality monitoring data monitored by photoelectric sensor network, mines the potential information from the massive data. on account of the continuous accumulation of monitoring data, this paper focuses on the study of database with numerical attribute and proposes a rule updating algorithm for solving the rule maintenance issues caused by changes in the database. according to the rule, the algorithm forms a new database from part of the original data and the new data, and searches the new database by random search, thus can avoid creating a large number of redundant rules and can quickly mine effective rules at the same time. experimental results show that this method not only can avoid mining in the whole original massive data, but also can improve work efficiency, and can quickly and effectively find new data and find useful rules in the data with high practicability
A near complete and articulated parvicursorine pes from the Campanian Wulansuhai Formation is described. This pes is referred to the genus Linhenykus and is one of the first foot skeletons to be described for a derived alvarezsaur, providing new information on the first digit of the pes. The evolution of a laterally directed flange of the anterior face of the distal third metatarsal in arctometatarsalian taxa is described and discussed. This flange may have increased stability of the foot during cursorial locomotion and may also provide useful taxonomic and systematic data.
It has hitherto been hard to prove that any association of juvenile dinosaurs represents original behaviour rather than sedimentary accumulation, and it has been hard also to determine the ages of such juveniles. A previously described specimen, which consists of an “adult” Psittacosaurus with 34 fully articulated juveniles, turns out to be a composite: the “adult” skull probably has been added, and in any case it is below breeding age. Other juvenile-only clusters have been reported, but the best examples that likely reflect behaviour rather than sedimentary accumulation are specimens from the Early Cretaceous Lujiatun beds in NE China, which were entombed beneath pyroclastic flow deposits. A remarkable juvenile-only cluster of Psittacosaurus shows clear evidence of different ages (five 2-year olds and one 3-year old) based on bone histological analysis. These juveniles may have associated together as a close-knit, mixed-age herd either for protection, to enhance their foraging, or as putative helpers at the parental nest.
The earliest definitive ornithischian dinosaurs are from the Early Jurassic and are rare components of early dinosaur faunas. The Lower Lufeng Formation (Hettangian–Sinemurian) of Yunnan Province, China, has yielded a diverse Early Jurassic terrestrial vertebrate fauna. This includes several incomplete specimens have been referred to Ornithischia, including the type specimen of the thyreophoran “Tatisaurus” and other generically indeterminate material. The highly fragmentary Lufeng ornithischian Bienosaurus lufengensis was described briefly in 2001 and identified as an ankylosaurian dinosaur. Recent studies have cast doubt on this hypothesis, however, and given that the referral of Bienosaurus to Ankylosauria would result in an extensive ghost-lineage extending between it and the first definitive eurypodans (ankylosaurs + stegosaurs) in the Middle Jurassic, the holotype specimen is re-examined and re-described. We identify Bienosaurus as a probable thyreophoran dinosaur, although the fragmentary nature of the material and the absence of autapomorphies means that the specimen should be regarded as a nomen dubium.
Controlling carbon emissions without impairing urbanization and economic development highlights the necessity of researching energy-related carbon emissions. Urban areas have become the main source of energy consumption and carbon emissions. This paper has developed a modified version of the Kaya identity, which incorporates urbanization and resident consumption, to analyze urbanization effect on carbon emissions in Jiangsu Province. Then, the Kuznets curve theory was introduced to estimate the inflection point of the marginal urbanization effect. The results indicated that the urbanization effect was still an important factor that influences total carbon emissions. The marginal urbanization effect will still increase until the urbanization rate reaches 78.94%. Therefore, Jiangsu should also pay attention to the urbanization effect even though it may increase slowly or decrease, and the results of this paper on marginal urbanization effect make it clear that controlling the carbon emissions without the expense of urbanization growth and economic development is still a big challenge for Jiangsu Province. We have proposed some policy recommendations, which include paying attention to the quality of development of urbanization, adjusting the industrial structure, making changes to lifestyles, and so on.
Desertification is one of the most serious environmental problems on a global scale. China suffers from desertification over large areas. Landscape boundaries profoundly influence the structure and function of landscapes, and influence ecological processes both locally and over large scales. Data on soil properties and vegetation collected on three 110 km parallel transects across sandy land-steppe transition zone in Yanchi county, Ningxia region, northwestern China, were used to analyze changes along the sandy land/steppe boundary by using the Moving Split Window (MSW), to determine desertification dynamics, and to explore changes of vegetation and soil properties among different desertification degree. Combining the dissimilarity profiles of soil particle size with importance value (IV) of vegetation, four boundaries were detected along transects. According to the four boundaries, we divided the whole sandy land/steppe ecotone area into five desertification categories: potential desertification (PD), light desertification (LD), medium desertification (MD), severe desertification (SD) and extreme desertification (ED). Sand fractions increased, while silt and clay fractions, soil organic C, total N and available N decreased and exhibited clear gradient changes from the potential desertification land to the extreme desertification land. All areas we studied have been desertificated at different degree based upon soil particle compositions at different depths. With the aggravation of sandy desertification, the steppe species dominating in the potential desertification land gradually gave place to arid and sand tolerant perennials and therophytes and eventually to psammophyte annuals and shrubs in the extreme desertification land.
Under the new normal of China’s economy, the competition among the port enterprises is not only the competition of the core competence of the port, the port industry chain or the port supply chain, but also the competition of the port service ecosystem. In this paper, the concept and characteristics of the port service ecosystem is discussed, a hierarchical model of the port service ecosystem is constructed. As an extended logistic model, Lotka-Volterra model is applied to study the competitive co-evolution and mutually beneficial co-evolution of enterprises in the port service ecosystem. This paper simulates the co-evolution of enterprises in the port service ecosystem by using MATLAB programming. The simulation results show that the breadth of the niche of the enterprises is changing with the change of the competition coefficient and the coefficient of mutual benefit in the port service ecosystem. Based on that, some proposals are put forward to ensure the healthy and orderly development of the port service ecosystem
A heteropolysaccharide, named L2, from Lentinula edodes has been proved to possess immunostimulating and anti-ageing activities in previous studies, but its acting mechanism was not completely understood. In this study, 1 H NMR spectroscopy approach was employed to investigate the metabolic profi les of the urine from adult mice after L2 intervention. Using principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discriminate analysis (PLS-DA), 22 potential biomarkers were found to be mainly involved in some metabolic pathways: amino acid metabolism, energy metabolism, lipid metabolism, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, urea cycle and gut microbiota metabolism. Among them, the signifi cantly altered metabolites include: elevated glutamate (75%) and creatine (64%); decreased proline (65%), betaine (58%), fucose (63%) and dimethylamine (59%). In conclusion, the present data is helpful to understand the mechanisms related to previously confi rmed immunomodulation and anti-aging effects of L2, and provide valuable information for mining new functions of L2.
In woody perennials, leaf structure and biochemistry vary with tree age under changing environments. However, the related eco-physiological mechanisms have not been elucidated yet. In this study, we investigated agerelated responses of juvenile and mature subalpine fir trees (Abies faxoniana Rehder & E.H. Wilson.) growing at altitudes between 2,500 and 3,500 m in the Wanglang Natural Reserve in southwest China, to study the adaptive strategies of different age trees to suit changing environments. We found that there were distinct age- and altituderelated changes in the structural and biochemical characteristics of leaves. At all altitudes, mature trees exhibited higher area- and mass-based leaf nitrogen content (Narea, Nmass), leaf mass per area (LMA) and stable isotope carbon composition (δ13C), and a lower chlorophyll (Chl) content than those juvenile trees, except for Nmass at 3,000 m as well as LMA at 2,750 m, where the values of Nmass and LMA in mature trees were slightly lower than those in juvenile trees. Furthermore, leaf characteristics showed significant differences in the change rates with altitude between different age groups. Our results indicated that assimilative organs in mature trees do not suffering from nutrient deficiency and that juvenile and mature trees possess different adaptive growth strategies under changing environments, as indicated by higher leaf N content in mature trees and the opposite patterns of LMA and Chl content between two age groups. We also concluded that juvenile could be more sensitive to global warming due to a greater altitudinal influence on the leaf traits in juvenile trees than those in mature trees.
A common solid waste – corrugated-paper packaging boxes – was carbonized at 300, 450, and 600ºC to develop low-cost adsorbents (biochars). The resulting adsorbents were characterized and their adsorption performances were evaluated by the batch sorption of aqueous Pb(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and methylene blue (MB). The biochar obtained at 600ºC exhibited larger specific surface area, higher mineral contents, and pH of zero point charge (pHPZC). Calcium carbonate, lead carbonate/basic, and zinc carbonate were observed in the metal-sorbed biochars by a power X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The biochar of higher pyrolysis temperature (600ºC) had high sorption capacity of aqueous Pb(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) with the Langmuir maximum sorption capacity of 458, 146, and 10.7 mg g⁻¹, respectively. The pseudo-second-order model gave a better fit for the kinetic data of Pb(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and MB onto the biochar (600ºC). Moreover, the electrostatic attraction was the dominant mechanism for adsorption of MB while precipitation could be the main mechanisms for adsorption of Pb(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II). Therefore, carbonization can be an efficient and value-addition method for the recycling of waste corrugated paper packaging boxes and for the low-cost wastewater treatment.
Oyster shell powder is a potential adsorbent material that can be used to control pollution in groundwater. The current research objective is to evaluate the heavy metal ion adsorption properties by oyster shell powder in an aqueous solution. Three kinds of heavy metals (copper, cadmium, and lead) were adsorbed using oyster shell powder from aqueous solution. The effects of different temperatures, contact times, pH values, and initial concentrations were examined in order to optimize the conditions used for heavy metal decontamination. Cadmium and copper adsorption behaviours were suitable for modelling by the Langmuir isotherm, and lead adsorption behaviour was best modelled by the Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption situations fitted a pseudo second-order kinetic model. Intraparticular diffusion of heavy metal ions by oyster shell powder could be divided into two stages: rapid diffusion first, followed by a stable second stage. The maximum adsorption amount was ranked in an ascending order as that to copper, cadmium, and then lead for both single and competitive systems. The adsorption capacities of copper, cadmium, and lead ions by oyster shell powder were lower in a competitive system than in a single system, indicating that competitive adsorption could occur.
Graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transformed infrared spectra (FT-IR). The adsorption of Co(II) on GO was studied as a function of contact time, pH, ionic strength, humic acid, Co(II) concentration, and temperature. The adsorption of Co(II) is strongly dependent on the pH values and weakly dependent on ionic strength. The adsorption thermodynamics of Co(II) on GO was carried out at 303, 313, and 333 K to obtain the corresponding thermodynamic data (ΔH0, ΔS0, and ΔG0), which suggested that the adsorption of Co(II) on GO is a spontaneous and endothermic process. GO provided a promising candidate for the preconcentration and solidification of Co(II) from large volumes of aqueous solutions.
The Early Cretaceous fossil record of large−bodied theropods from Asia is poor, hindering comparison of Asian predatory dinosaur faunas with those from other continents. One of the few large Asian theropod specimens from this interval is a partial skull (maxilla and dentary) from the Lianmugin Formation (?Valanginian–Albian), the holotype of Kelmayisaurus petrolicus. Most authors have either considered this specimen as an indeterminate basal tetanuran or a nomen dubium. We redescribe K. petrolicus and note that it possesses a single autapomorphy (a deep accessory groove on the lateral surface of the anterior dentary), as well as a unique combination of characters that differentiates it from other theropods, affirming its validity. A phylogenetic analysis recovers K. petrolicus as a basal carcharodontosaurid, which is supported by various features: very deep interdental plates (a carcharodontosaurid synapomorphy), fused interdental plates (present in carchardontosaurids and a limited number of other theropods), and the absence of diagnostic features of other clades of large−bodied theropods such as abelisaurids, megalosauroids, and coelurosaurs. As such,Kelmayisaurusis the second known carcharodontosaurid from Asia, and further evidence that this clade represented a global radiation of large−bodied predators during the Early–mid Cretaceous.
