The lists of eriophyoid mites on cereals and grasses occurring over the world and in Poland are given. The relations to their host plants including the transmission of viruses were also presented. Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus (WSMV) transmitted by Aceria tosichella, Ryegrass Mosaic Virus (RgMV) and Agropyron Mosaic Virus (AMV) transmitted by Abacarus hystrix are the most important viruses and their vectors. The host range of grass-infesting eriophyoid species of Poland were studied. 11 species of eriotyoid mites were found on many grass species. Directions of further studies related the enophyoids on grasses are suggested.
During a survey conducted in Russia on the Kola Peninsula; 11 eriophyoid species were collected from grasses. Five are new to science: Aceria kolae sp. nov. from Phalaris arundinacea, Aculodes stoloniferae sp. nov. from Agrostis stolonifera, Aculodes neglectivagrans sp. nov. from Calamagrostis neglecta, Aculus hibinicus sp. nov. from Anthoxanthum odoratum and Tegolophus moliniae sp. nov. from Molinia coerulea. Herein, adults of both sexes and some juvenile stages are illustrated and described. A supplementary description of Aculodes capillarisi Skoracka is given. New host plants are Melica nutans and Phalaris arundinacea for Abacarus spodiopogoni Sukhareva, Festuca rubra arenaria for Abacarus hystrix (Nalepa), Agrostis stolonifera stolonifera for A. capillarisi, Agrostis stolonifera straminea for Aculodes dubius (Nalepa), Calamagrostis purpurea phragmitoides for Aculodes mckenziei (Keifer).
One new species of eriophyoid mite is described from Iceland and new records of three species from Iceland are presented. Aceria reykjaviki sp. nov., collected from Alpine Mouse-ear Chickweed Cerastium alpinum L., was described as new for science. Aceria thomasi (Nalepa), Aculops thymi (Nalepa), and Aculus tetanothrix (Nalepa) were recorded for the first time in Iceland. Aculops thymi was recorded for the first time as infesting Thymus praecox Opiz. As former descriptions are deficient, supplementary descriptions of females and males are provided for all three species. Nymphs are characterized for A. thomasi and A. tetanothrix.
Two new species of grass-feeding eriophyid mites collected in northern Europe are described. Aceria arenariae sp. nov., inhabiting European beachgrass, Ammophila arenaria (L.) Link, was found in Denmark. Aculochetus blaszaki sp. nov. inhabiting purple moorgrass, Molinia coerulea (L.) Moench was found in Finland. New locality and host records for Abacarus hystrix (Nalepa, 1896) and Aculodes mckenziei (Keifer, 1944) are also given.
