The research was conducted in two periods from 1977 to 80 and from 1982 to 85 on a mountain meadow of Meadow fescue and Kentucky meadowgrass type at Czarny Potok near Krynica. The brown soil there was acid (pH=4,2) and poor in phosphorus together with potassium. The experimental design of split-splot was used. Four levels of nitrogen treatment: 100, 200, 300 or 400 kg N per hectare were applied on the phosphorus (90 kg P₂O₅/ha) and potassium background. The sward was cuts two or three times and in the second period of the research in two terms: the early one and the late one. During the experiment the phosphorus level in soil increased from 2,8 to 5,0 mg P₂O₅/100g of soil in average, whereas the potassium level decreased from 4,4 to 1,1 mg K₂O/100g of soil. There was also a slight increasing of pH soil after treatments but 300 and 400 kg N/ha doses. The utilization of dose nitrogen varied from 21 to 53%. The most effective ones appeared the first period of the experiment, lower doses of nitrogen and three cuts. There was 155 kg hay potassium collected in the first and 135 kg in the second period of research. The balance of phosphorus was active in every fertilized site and its uptake varied from 7,5-28,0 kg P₂O₅ per hectare per year. The influence of intensified nitrogen fertilization on the uptake of calcium (28,9-54,0 kg/ha/yr) and magnesium (9,8-33,6 kg/ha/yr) negligible. As regards sodium uptake (3,3-12,6 kg/ha/yr) the positive effect of increasing nitrogen doses was observed.
