The paper presents the distribution of water mites (Hydracarina) in the lowland river Pasłęka. The investigations were carried out from 1984 to 1986 at 11 sites. 10,338 specimens belonging to 80 species of Hydracarina were collected. A synecological analysis of the fauna investigated was made, phenology and distribution in the longitudinal and transversal profile of the river were studied. More detailed characteristics were prepared for 10 most numerous species.
The paper presents water mites (Hydracarina) of peat lands in Bagna Biebrzańskie. 87 species of water mites were collected in the following water habitats: peat ponds, sedges, temporary forest reservoirs, temporary field reservoirs, small permanent water bodies, drainage ditches, ox-bow lakes, and the rivers: Biebrza, Narew, and Wissa. The synecology and distribution of Hydracarina in these habitats were analysed.
In 11 water bodies 1166 specimens of water mites belonging to 58 species were collected. The most numerous species were Tiphys bullatus (Thor) and Arrenurus globator (Müll.). The greatest number of water mites were found in field ponds (51 species, 59.9% of collected imagines). In midforest waters 25 species (33.5% imagines) and in village reservoirs 15 species (6.6% imagines) were recorded. The water mite assemblages were dominated by species of the astatic spring fauna and those characteristic for small water bodies.
Larvae of seven Hydracarina species from the genera Hydrachna and Eylais were the parasites of 12 host species of Cymatia bonsdorffi, C. coleoptrata, Corixa dentipes, C. sahlbergi, C. linnaei, Sigara concinna, S. praeusta, S. striata, S. falleni, S. distincta, Notonecta glauca, Nepa cinerea. The parasites were most abundant on Heteroptera species which were numerous in the lakes. Differentiation of parasite occurrence was analysed with respect to sex and stage of development of the hosts. A detailed description has been given as to the parasitism by Hydrachna cruenta upon S. striata and S. falleni.
The paper contains descriptions of larvae of 19 species of water mites of the superfamily Hydryphantoidea. Larvae of 11 species are described for the first time. General morphological characters and morphometric characteristics of larvae of this group are presented.
63 specles of water mites recorded in three Lobelia-type lakes. Three species: Eylais relicta. Lobertia saxonica, Arrenurus vietsi were new for Poland. The fauna of investigated lakes is strongly individualized. The water mites fauna of Lake Łąkie were dominated by acidophilic species. In the Lake Głęboczko the indicators of oligo-mesotrophy and rnoderate eutrophy are the most numerous. The species of small water bodies and eurytopic were the most numerous in the Lakes Cechyńskie Małe and Głęboczko. This situatlon is results of growing eutrophy.
