Delimitation of the boundary between agricultural and forest land use is of basic importance for the assessment of needs and possibilities for land afforestation within individual communes and for appropriate coordination of relevant activities. With enacting on 1st January 2002 the Act on setting agricultural land aside for afforestation purpose and with providing other opportunities for communes to receive financial support for land afforestation the need becomes evident for a large-scale activity aiming at the delimination of boundary between agricultural and forest land use. The delimitation of boundary between agricultural and forest land use will constitute in the future an essential element of physical planning in the communes.
The natural environment in Upper Narew area is relatively undisturbed by the industrial activity. This area is valuable in terms of its ecology and landscape. Economic and social transformation underway in rural areas may improve the living standard of the people living here provided that land use is compatible with the environmental characteristics of this area. The article discusses the draft of the measures to create conditions for accelerated improvement in living conditions in this part of Poland.
