In the recent years, goose meat had a constantly decreasing proportion of the world’s poultry production. However, a significant amount of goose meat is produced mainly in Central Europe and Southeastern Asia. During the last decade, production greatly increased in these areas and also worldwide. China has a leading role in the world’s goose meat production. In Europe, the most significant goose meat producers are Hungary and Poland, the latter of which could greatly improve the volume of production in the recent years, thereby representing an increasingly growing competitor for Hungary. This study illustrates the international circumstances of goose production, as well as the tendencies of production and trade. In addition, RCA indexes were used to examine the comparative advantages of goose meat and meat products in the world waterfowl market in the case of the most significant producers of Europe – Hungary and Poland. Consequently, it can be concluded that the two main exporting countries have different, but significant comparative advantages in terms of various meat products.

Production and trade of duck products in global view

Duck typically represents a smaller proportion in the poultry meat production of the world. However, certain European, as well as Eastern and South Asian countries produce a significant amount of duck meat. In the recent decades, production significantly increased both in these regions and worldwide. This study focuses on the international situation of the duck sector, as well as changes in production and trade trends. In addition, RCA indexes were used to examine the comparative advantages of duck meat and meat products in the world market of waterfowl products in the case of the most significant exporting countries of the world. It can be concluded that even though certain exporting countries have various trade and competitive advantages in the case of different products, other regions must face disadvantages.
In the European Union, alternative housing systems (aviary, barn, free-range, organic) are increasingly used in laying hen populations (49.6%). Hungary is one of the member states where modified cage housing technology is prevalent, but this may change in the future. For this reason, the economic aspects of egg production farms with different housing technologies should be examined in Hungary. The aim of this study is to present the production and economic indicators of three different sized Hungarian egg producing farms using three different housing methods (enriched cage, aviary, barn). The main finding is that all three farms are profitable, regardless of farm size and technology used. The obtained results, in conformity with technical literature sources, show that the cost of eggs is the lowest in the cage-based farm. However, economies of scale also play an important role in the case of the examined farms. In addition, higher sales prices were observed in the case of smaller farms using alternative technology, which is both due to the direct sales channel and the higher value of eggs produced by alternative technology recognised by consumers.
Due to its extraordinary hardness, decorative appearance and possible small dimensions, black locust wood is assumed to be an excellent material for strip parquetflooring. The favourable colour changes achieved by controlled steam treatment further increased the utilization potential of this material. Flooring was installed on a student dormitory stair landing in heavy use. Due to the flooring’s very high exposure, 5 years was considered a long enough period to compare the different face layer materials during in-service test. Oil was used as a coating to avoid the remarkable protecting effect of hard film-forming varnishes (acrylic, etc.) against abrasion. Besides the flooring turning grey (all face layers no matter what treatment), only some delamination occurred at certain places after five years in service.The laboratory test results for abrasion resistance, dimensional changes and deformation were analysed. Additionally, the Brinell-Mörath hardness after indoor service and the abrasion due to indoor service were analysed. In terms of abrasion resistance, dimensional changes and deformation, no essential differences werefound between the oil-treated and untreated black locust wood on the one hand, and the control oak specimen on the other. Long-term tests showed that, after 5 years in service, the Brinell-Mörath-hardness decreased considerably for all the testedmaterials. The type of section and the presence of wide rays influenced the roughness and the waviness of the surface after indoor service.
