The enigmatic Neotropical genus Protandroconnus Franz is redescribed and redefined, based on examination of its type species, P. peruensis Franz. Superficially similar Trichocircusgen. nov. is described, a genus showing bizarre male cephalic modifications. Three new species are described: Trichocircus decorissp. nov. (type species of Trichocircus; Panama), T. antennatussp. nov. (Panama) and T. misersp. nov. (Costa Rica). A first attempt is made to subdivide the Neotropical genera of Glandulariini into informal groups and summarize the current state of knowledge to facilitate further studies, especially descriptions of new genera. Protandroconnus is included in the ‘Microscydmus-Homoconnus-Protandroconnus complex’, whereas Trichocircus is in the ‘Amimoscydmus-Protoconnus-Trichocircus complex'; the groups are proposed based on the presence or absence of the lateral submental sutures, the anterior metaventral process, and three variants of complete and incomplete fusion of the prosternum with the hypomera.
Subterranean (endogean) Scydmaeninae are recorded for the first time from Southeast Asia, based on specimens collected from the mineral soil layer in Cambodia and Vietnam. All reported species show morphological adaptations to life within soil, as micro- or anophthalmy, miniaturization and light pigmentation. The following new taxa are described: Siamites deharvengi sp. nov. (Glandulariini; Vietnam) is the first Siamites species known outside Thailand and the only species of the genus with microphthalmous males; Blefuscudia gen. nov. (Scydmaenini) is morphologically similar to Liliputella known to occur in the Bismarck Archipelago; both genera are blind and wingless; Blefuscudia khmer sp. nov. (type species of Blefuscudia; Cambodia); Blefuscudia bilineata sp. nov. (Vietnam); and Blefuscudia monolineata sp. nov. (Vietnam). Moreover, three species of Cephennomicrus (Cephenniini; Vietnam) are illustrated, representing the first microphthalmous members of this large genus. All these scydmaenines come from karst hills with a limestone ground.
Typhaea decipiens LOHSE, 1989, collected in the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowlands, is reported for the first time from Poland.
Two species of eulophid wasps are recorded from Poland for the first time: Horismenus specularis (ERDÖS) (Entedoninae) from Lower Silesia and Stenomesius rufescens WESTWOOD (Eulophinae) from the Eastern Beskidy Mts. Notes on key characters and illustrations of the recorded taxa are given.
New faunistic data concerning 23 species of the beetle family Scydmaenidae(Coleoptera) are presented, based on nearly 500 specimens collected in the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowlands. Scydmoraphes helvolus (SCHAUM), Scydmoraphes minutus (CHAUDOIR), Stenichnus (Cyrtoscydmus) bicolor (DENNY) and Scydmaenus (Cholerus) perrisii (REITTER) are recorded for the first time in the Lowlands, and new records for some rare species (including myrmecophilous beetles) are also provided. Detailed collecting data are given with remarks on scydmaenid biology and ecology.
