The article analyzes methods for the protection of reservoir water against the eutrophication process. It dis­cusses methods for protection against point-source, spatial and dispersed pollution, biological methods and the most frequently applied technical methods. It pays special attention to the application of mathematical modelling to predict changes in water quality. A simulation of water quality changes in the Dobczyce Reservoir, expressed by a change in the concentration of chlorophyll "a," was made. Calculations were made for different pollutant concentrations and different temperatures. It was found that temperature had an important impact on the course of the process in surface segments and that pollutant load exerted an influence in subsurface segments. In sedi­ment segments, the factors did not practically affect the course of the eutrophication process.
Our paper discusses the issue of biogas desulfurization with adsorbents. The authors investigated biogas in terms of the relationship between anaerobic digestion substrates and a chemical composition of the product. Based on the literature review, each group of adsorbents and their representatives was examined, with special attention paid to carbon and mineral adsorbents. The authors analyzed the desulfurization process using in particular activated carbon, oxide adsorbents, and zeolites.
Our paper presents a detailed comparative analysis and methodology of selection of a reclamation procedure for the Górka hazardous waste landfill in Trzebinia, Poland. The most favorable solution offered by the authors is based on the measurable evaluation criteria and the decision analysis. Evaluation criteria have been selected to meet the assumptions of a sustainable development concept and take into account ecological, economical, and social aspects of the analyzed options. At the same time, the most favorable technical and technological solutions have been proposed. The principal conditions of the properly carried out reclamation include: • Permanent elimination of harmful environmental effects caused by the solid waste landfill and leachate from the reservoir, mainly through reduced emission of pollutants to ground and surface waters. • Reclamation of soil within the disused quarry up to the standards required by Polish Law. • Reclamation and land development according to municipal zoning plan guidelines.
