17 meristic and morphometric features were studied in the bleak in the waters of Międzyodrze. Noticeable positive or negative allometry was observed in the growth of head length, horizontal eye diameter, pelvic fins length, body height, and in the distance between pelvic fins and anal fin. In the light of the studied features, the bleak in Międzyodrze places itself in a transitional position between the lake populations and the riverine and estuarine populations.
The paper demonstrates results of the stock monitoring of blackfin icefish in the region of South Georgia in the period of 1988/89-1991/92 as well as summarises seventeen-year period ofobservatio (1976/77 -1991/92). The influence of fishing on stock strucrture and supposed reasons of Quctuation ofyear-classes number are discussed.
Amphipoda, Cumacea, and Macrura natantia constituted the basic food component of small eel-cod (< 20 cm). Average sized fish (20-30 cm) fed mostly on Macrura natantia and fish; big specimens (> 30 cm) consumed fish, Euphausiacea and Macrura natantia. Mean filling index decreased with increasing depth of catches, while percentage of “empty” stomachs increased.
The rate growth of bleak in Międzyodrze-the wetland located in the lower course of the Odra River above Szczecin-was estimated with use of back-calculations. The fish reaches 59.3 mm in length in the first year of life, 89.1 in the second year, 115.8 mm in the third, and 131.5 mm in the fourth year of life (SL). Females are on the whole larger than males of the same age.
The abundance of Muarenolepis marmoratus increases with depth. In December 1987 and January 1988 in bottom trawl catches prevailed 19-23-cm-long specimens, belonging to the age groups V and VI. Growth rate was expressed with use of von Bertalanffy′s growth equation with the parameters: L∞ = 48.21 cm; K = 0.1188; t0 = 0.1939 year.
The morphometric characters of Muraenolepis (commonly identified as M. microps) were studied. It was found a small relevance of features accepted so far as diagnostic: dorsal filament length, mental barbel length and eye diameter. The length of lateral line exceeds that in individuals of M. microps described so far in the available literature, reaching far beyond the anus. Its chord length being on average 49.66% of L. Stand., indicates to M. marmoratus presumably.
The age and length distribution of the blue bream spawning population of Międzyodrze-the wetland area in the lower part of the river Odra-was examined in the years 1992-1996. The length and age of sexual maturity was determined, the relative gonads size of mature fish in autumn and spring seasons as well as relationship between fecundity and weight or length of females was assessed.
The present paper evaluates the relevance of otoliths, vertebrae and other osseous elements to the age determinations; the age composition of stock, growth rate, length-weight relationship, condition, stage of gonads maturity as well as the age at first maturity were investigated, too.
