Non-normative method for determining acoustic insulation of board materials. The paper presents a new method for the measurement of acoustic insulation against airborne sounds in the insulation and construction board materials used in wooden and brick buildings. The primary aim of the study was to simplify the design of a test stand, and thus of individual measurements, while maintaining the confidence level of the results. A series of measurements was performed to evaluate this method’s suitability for determining the acoustic insulation of board materials, and the resulting sound reduction index was analyzed with reference to the tested material and frequency of the generated sound. The study outcomes were found to be consistent with the principles of building acoustics and allowed for drawing preliminary conclusions on the insulating properties of various board materials and sets of materials used for the construction of building partitions.
In this work the optimum resination rate of white mustard straw particles with UF resin in the production of straw particleboards was investigated. The resination rates used in this study were 10, 12 and 14%. For the selected resination rate, the possibility of reducing the density of the straw particleboards was also determined. In order to evaluate the hygienic parameters of the experimental boards, the formaldehyde content and volatile organic compounds (VOC) were determined. Moreover, using a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) the boards’ disposal options by means of burning or co-incineration were investigated. The study results showed thata 10% resination rate enabled the production of white mustard particleboards of type P1 and P2, while the simultaneous reduction in their density to 600 kg/m3limited their application to dry conditions only, i.e. boards of P1 type. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed a variable thermal performance of the studied boards. The pine particleboards showed a higher thermal resistance, however, up to a temperature of 750°C, the samples of the experimental boards underwent a similar process of thermal destruction.
This study evaluated the applicability of particles of white mustard straw as a substitute of wood chips in the manufacture of particle boards, resinated with UF resin. The scope of work included the determination of suitability of mustard straw in the manufacture of particle boards, the manufacture of boards with different proportions of straw and the determination of their basic physico-mechanical properties. Produced single-layer particle boards contained 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100% mustard particles in relation to chip mass. Recorded results indicated that straw of white mustard may constitute a valuable substitute of wood chips in the production of general use particle boards and interior boards, including furniture, used under dry conditions. It was also shown that partial substitution of wood chips with particles of mustard straw in case of boards with density reduced by 30%.
