The effect of DDT, HCH, thiuram, carbaryl, methoxychlor and dichlorvos and of the compounds of lead, copper, cadmium, zinc, arsenic, chromium and mercury on the growth and the aflatoxins-production by the following strains: Aspergillus flavus VIII, A.flavus NRRL-3145 and A. parasiticus NRRL-2999 - was investigated. DDT stimulated the growth of the investigated strains and the production of aflatoxins. HCH, methoxychlor and thiuram decreased the production of aflatoxine and inhibited the growth of the strains, whereas dichlorvos and carboryl decreased only the production of aflatoxins. Cadmium and chromium enhanced in various degrees (dependent on the dose used and on the strain) the production of aflatoxins, without any influence on growth. Zinc caused a pronounced impairment of the growth and aflatoxins production. The effect of copper was similar.
