The production of larvae, the formation of statoblasts, and the growth rate of colonies of Plumatella fungosa were investigated in two Polish eutrophic lakes. On the basis of the obtained results and data referring to the seasonal changes in the biomass, origin, and distribution of the bryozoan colonies the author gives a schematic presentation of the life cycle of P. fungosa in the studied lakes.
In the studied eutrophic lakes the freshwater bryozoan Plumatella fungosa produced annually at least 3 generations of colonies. The successive generations differed from each other in their biomass and mode of forming colonies (developed from statoblasts or larvae). The biomass and density of P. fungosa colonies in the littoral zone changed significantly during the season (May-November) and over a period of many years.
In everyday practice of neurobiology research multivariate datasets are analyzed. This concerns EEG, ECoG, MEG data but also can be extended to fMRI and other recordings as well. Multichannel data require specifi c approach in order to fully explore information they contain. The issues and problems arising during analysis of such datasets will be discussed. With special emphasis relations between signals which describe infl uences between investigated structures will be discussed. The concept of Granger causality will be introduced and examples of estimators of causal infl uence of signals, especially the Directed Transfer Function, and time-varying DTF (which describes dynamical properties of transmissions between channels of the process) will be presented. The performance of the selected estimators will be shown on simulated examples as well as on real EEG data.
Seedlings of hybrid forms of winter triticale and of their parents were hardened against frost and their frost resistance was determined. Three groups of cultivars were separated with respect to their frost resistance: 1) Low resistant: Salvo and Bolero, 2) Intermediate: Almo, Ugo and LAD 490, 3) High resistant: Tewo, Bogo, Tornado, Nemo and Vero. Heterosis in relation to frost resistance was not significant when the hybrid forms were compared with a better parent, but it appeared while comparing the frost resistance of some hybrid forms with mean values of that of parents.
