The paper provides information about new locality and the current distribution of Hordelymus europaeus in the Wielkopolska region. On the basis of a field study we present a comprehensive description of species locations, characterise inhabited communities, as well as the population size and morphological differences of wood barley in particular populations.
W pracy przedstawiono nowe, naturalne stanowisko śnieżycy wiosennej Leucoium vernum L. w liczbie ośmiu kęp, stwierdzone w łęgu jesionowo-wiązowym Fraxino-Ulmetum niedaleko Dziewiczej Góry koło Poznania. Obok stanowiska śnieżycy wiosennej z rezerwatu „Śnieżycowy Jar” koło Siarczanowa odnalezione stanowisko należy do najbardziej północnych w Polsce
The paper presents a systematic list of vascular plant species recorded at 78 cemeteries in the Roztocze region and surrounding areas. 543 species belonging to 75 families were recorded. Of these, 99 foreign and 43 native species were cultivated. 41 species introduced by humans to cemeteries can be regarded as the so-called established cemetery species. These species, once planted on graves, continue to grow or even spread after people stopped cultivating them.
Our paper presents research on flora, its characteristics and differences, at two adjacent railway stations in Powodowo, western Poland. One of stations has been shut down while the other continues to serve as a site of cement and lime handling. The presence or absence of such operations has been found to affect flora. At the operating station we have observed a larger number of species and families, as well as a relatively greater share of annual and non-indigenous (foreign) plants. At the non-operating station we have observed a relatively greater proportion of indigenous (native) species, particularly those common in meadow areas and a large share of perennial species. These observations indicate that a process of spontaneous flora naturalization has been underway at the non-operating station. Both of the stations are home to species that are otherwise rare in the region of Wielkopolska such as Carex ligerica, Epilobium adnatum and Medicago minima.
The paper presents the results of a biometrical study on the leaves of vegetative and generative shoots of Morus alba. Mature leaves were collected from the green areas of Poznań (Poland) city. Leaves from vegetative shoots were collected from 34 sites. Leaves from generative shoots were collected from specimens with blackish purple or purple fruit (13 trees) and with pale yellow to creamy fruit (21 trees). Eleven morphological traits were analysed in the leaves from vegetative and generative shoots, including the petiole and blade. The seven examined features were characterised by low or moderate variability and four features were characterised by high or very high variability. The research revealed slight differences between trees with blackish purple or pale yellow fruit and significant morphological differences between the leaves of vegetative and generative shoots. The article includes descriptions of quantitative features have not been published in Poland. White mulberry leaves (Morus alba) with white and dark fruit did not make clearly separated groups. Therefore, they should be treated as morphotype of cultivars rather than a distinct taxonomic rank.
The study presents vascular flora, both spontaneous and that coming from former and contemporary plantings found in five palace parks in the Wielkopolska region. Analyses were conducted in the years 2010–2013. A total of 612 vascular plant species were reported. In terms of the floristic composition the park in Wąsowo was the richest (335 species), while the park in Konarzewo was the poorest (133 species). Interesting plants occurring spontaneously in the analysed area include Alisma ×rhicnocarpum, Asperugo procumbens, Cardamine flexuosa, Cardamine hirsuta, Cerastium macrocarpum, Geranium molle, Monotropa hypophagea, Oxalis corniculata, Stellaria neglecta and Vicia dasycarpa. The most interesting species grown or probably purposefully introduced to the parks include Acanthus longifolius, Aegopodium podagraria ‘Variegatum’, Chaerophyllum aromaticum, Corydalis cava, Corydalis intermedia, Cymbalaria muralis, Euphorbia amygdaloides, Gagea minima, Geranium pyrenaicum, Geranium sanguineum, Gypsophilla paniculata, Helianthemum apenninum, Isopyrum thalictroides, Lithospermum purpurocaeruleum, Luzula luzuloides, Narcissus pseudonarcissus, Origanum vulgare, Ornithogalum nutans, Poa chaixii, Rudbeckia fulgida, Telekia speciosa and Viola cyanea.
Twenty-three populations of Senecio erucifolius were sampled to study morphological diversity of the species in Poland. A total of 690 shoots, leaves, capitula, flowers, and fruits were characterized in respect to 27 quantitative traits and were subjected to morphometric analyses. Principal component analysis made it possible to distinguish two groups of individuals, corresponding to two infraspecific taxa – S. erucifolius subsp. tenuifolius (19 populations) and S. erucifolius subsp. erucifolius (four populations). The characters of the greatest importance in differentiating these two subspecies included the length of the upper lobe of the middle leaf, the width of the upper lobe, the width of the longest lateral lobe, the width of the upper lobe at the base, and the length of the tubular flower. Six of the 27 morphological features significantly differentiated populations within subspecies erucifolius according to a stepwise discriminant analysis. The length of the middle leaf, length of the tubular flower and width of the upper lobe at the base contributed most to the discrimination between the investigated populations. The discriminant analysis also showed considerable morphological heterogeneity of the 19 populations classified as subspecies tenuifolius. Seventeen characters significantly differentiated the populations, with the length of the achene and the ratio between the length and the width of the achene as the most important ones.
This paper presents the macromorphological and micromorphological characteristics of wood barley recorded in the Wielkopolska Lowland. On the basis of the collection of preserved specimens, the micromorphological features were examined under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to assess their taxonomic value. The principal features include the size and shape of cork/silica cells, crown cells, prickles, macro-hairs and stomata as well as the morphology of long cells in vegetative and reproductive organs.
