The horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is one of the most beautiful decorative trees, greatly enjoyed by many generations. In 1998, in Wrocław area, damage to the horse chestnut’s leaves inflicted by a small butterfly horse-chestnut leafminer (Cameraria ohridella) was reordered for the first time in Poland. The butterfly is spreading rapidly over the country and it currently threatens trees in the Silesia, Krakow and Kutno areas. The author describes the structure and the developmental cycle of the butterfly, the damage it inflicts and methods of pest control.
