The purpose of the work was to assess the immunogenic properties of Pityrosporum pachydermatis. Out of 12 strains isolated from clinical cases of otitis externa in dogs one strain with the richest antigenic structure was selected. Immune response of healthy dogs immunized with alive or inactivated suspensions of P. pachydermatis was assessed by NBT, haemagglutination, on the basis of IgG and IgM levels and the indices of blood picture. The results of vaccination were evaluated on the ground of clinical signs in dogs naturally infected with the fungus. In the group of dogs experimentally immunized with alive and inactivated suspensions of P. pachydermatis no suppresive effects were noticed. In contrast, an increase of granulocytes activity following each injection of the antigen and eosinophilia in dogs immunized were found. In the group of dogs naturally infected with P. pachydermatis the vaccination brought about some attenuation of the disease or even recovery. In addition, during the therapy local reactions and an increased pruritus were observed. The findings point to immunostimulative and allergic properties of P. pachydermatis for dogs.
In this study DNA probes complementary to sequence of bovine and porcine rotavirus genes 6 (Rc6), 11 (Rc611) and 9 (Rc549), respectively, were developed and examined to determine their ability to detect group A porcine rotaviruses. In the dot biot hybridization test, the heterologous probes - Rc6 and Rc611 - detected 20 ng dsRNA of reference strains of porcine rotaviruses OSU and Gottfried whereas the homologous probe Rc549 detected as little as 1 ng. Out of 117 RNA extracted of feces of diseased piglets, rotavirus RNA was found in 23 cases using Rc6 and Rc549 probes. In this study, the homologous Rc549 probe was found to have the best diagnostic utility.
The purpose of the work was to establish the agents causing pododermatis of dogs and assess the results of treatment. The studies were carried out on 14 dogs with the signs of pododermatitis. The main microflora isolated from the infectious foci belonged to Staphylococcus spp and P. pachydermatis (57%). The sensitivity of staphylococci determined by the disc method against penicillin, streptomycin, terramycine, chloromycetine, neomycin, erythromycin, doxycycline and cloxacillin was differentiated. All the strains were sensitive to neomycin and resistant to cloxacillin. Antibiotic therapy combined with a topic application of chlorhexidine proved to be effective in 8 cases. In other 6 dogs with a simultaneous allergic signs of a disease a combined application of chemotherapy and antiallergic drugs permitted to obtain positive results. These data indicate that isolated bacteria and fungi played a secondary role in the process of the disease.

Dog babesiosis is a severe disease with symptoms of hemolitic anemia. The etiological factor of this disease are protozoa organisms from the family Babesidae. Molecular biology techniques indicate that the genetic structure of these parasites is extremely diversified. On the basis of the analysis of Babesia DNA, new variants of the protozoa were detected. It is possible that these new variants of Babesia are characterized by high virulence for dogs and high resistance to drugs used in babesiosis therapy.
