The aim of the work was to examine the health status of 11 highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) cultivars cropped on the plantations in a south-eastern region of Poland as well as to determine the composition of fungus species colonizing their stems. The performed observations of health status indicated that stems with disease symptoms were found on almost all bushes. Three types of symptoms were found: spots on stems, from which mainly Topospora myrtilli was isolated, widespread stem necrosis inhabited by Phomopsis archeri and necrosis of stem tops caused by Botrytis cinerea. Moreover, the following isolates of fungi were obtained Cytospora, Phoma, Fusarium, Alternaria and Seimatosporium vaccinii, Myxothyrium leptideum and Sordaria fimicola. It was confirmed that the most malignant pathogen of highbush blueberry in the studied region was Topospora myrtilli.
In presented studies was undertaken the attempt to determine the effectiveness of such preparations as Biochikol 020 PC and Biosept 33 SL in limiting the growth of T myrtilli in vitro. Moreover, the protective effect of these biopreparations and Dithane M45 80WP for highbush blueberry stems was determined. The studies carried out in vitro indicated that Biochikol 020 as well as Biosept 33 SL significantly limited the growth and development of pathogen. Very strong inhibition of hyphae growth and its deep degradation were caused by Biosept 33 SL in concentration 0.3%. Similarly, in experiment on protecting action of selected preparations for stems of highbush blueberry against T. myrtilli, Biochikol 020 and Biosept 33 SL inhibited the growth of pathogen. But its protective effects were weaker in comparison to Dithane M45 80WP because after the application of this preparation the development of disease symptoms caused by T. myrtilli was significantly lower.
Badania prowadzono w latach 2007-2009 w okolicach Lublina. Dotyczyły one trzech odmian magnolii (Magnolia spp.): 'Alexandrina', 'Susan' oraz 'Yellow Bird'. Badaniami objęto nasadzenia w ogrodzie przydomowym, Ogrodzie Botanicznym UMCS w Lublinie oraz w gospodarstwie szkółkarskim. Obserwacje prowadzono 2 razy w sezonie wegetacyjnym. Po określeniu zdrowotności roślin pędy i liście z objawami chorobowymi pobierano do analizy mikologicznej. Z zamierających części roślin uzyskano izobaty grzybów należących do 11 rodzajów. Wśród nich dominowały gatunki znane ze swej patogeniczności dla magnolii: Botiytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum oraz Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.
Phoma negriana is a little-known pathogen of grapevine canes but increasingly often it is listed in the countries of southern Europe and Asia. The work concerns a study of the opportunities for growth and development of the fungus at different temperatures, pathogenicity tests and the influence of biotechnical preparations on the growth and development of the fungus in vitro. Studies have shown that mycelial growth of P. negriana is possible at the temperature range from 5 to 32ºC with the thermal optimum from 20 to 24ºC. The optimal temperatures for the abundant sporulation was 20, 24 and 28ºC. The positive results of pathogenicity tests as well as re-isolation of the fungus from inoculated shoots confirmed the possibility of grapevine canes infection by P. negriana. A significant factor in facilitating infection were injuries of shoots, what indicates that the fungus is a facultative pathogen of grapevine. Biosept Active limited the growth and development of P. negriana significantly more strongly than Beta-Chikol. When it was applied at the concentration of 0.3%, it caused destruction and loss of fungal hyphae vitality.
The experiment assess the effectiveness of two mineral oils: Sunspray 850 EC (85% mineral oil) and Sunspray Ultra-Fine (98.8% mineral oil) on tulip ‘Leen van der Mark’ fields. Tulip plants were sprayed once a week for three weeks. Mineral oils were applied at concentrations of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0%. The oil preparations did not negatively affect the length of flower shoot and tepals of tulips grown in field. No phytotoxic symptoms were observed on leaves, however their color was altered. In all combinations protected using oils, the number of plants with virus symptoms on petals was lower than for control. No decrease in the commercial and the first choice bulb yields due to the mineral oils application were recorded. Mineral oils applied at concentration up to 2.0% had no negative contribution on the quality of produced tulip flowers. Despite of the selection made in the field, from 60 to 73% plants showed virus symptoms in control combination during plant forcing. Efficiency of oils in reducing the spread of viruses depended on the year of study and oil type. The best effects were achieved using Sunspray 850 EC at 1.5% concentration (26% virus-infected plants). The oil preparations, despite of high efficiency in reducing the virus spread, did not guarantee a full protection in the field in any year of study.
