Development of the construction of the flat furniture element made of natural wood

Flat element is not only the construction, but also the creative element. The aim of the paper is to analyze some of the aspects of the flat element made of solid wood in historical context. It is investigating the material structure, construction and technological principles of their creation. Basic basis for the mentioned analyze were selected types of historical furniture from the collection of the Slovak museums. Majority of the investigated objects was the wardrobe and table furniture from the period of gothic, renaissance, baroque,... as well as interesting types of the contemporary furniture.

The paper is aimed at the analysis of the historical sacral furniture made on the area of Slovakia in the 17th - 19th century. It is defining the shapes, analyses the material structure, construction and technologies of the surface decorating. Seating elements of the selected churches in the middle Slovakia - Čeřin, Hronsek, Poniky and Pribylina were mainly the objects of the research are located.
