Induced gynogenesis as potential tool for detection of receive deleterious mutations carriers salmonids fishery . 8 rainbow trout females were tripped and the eggs were subjected to induced gynogenesis procedure. Approximately half of 3 female’s progeny showed type of malformations occasionally observed in rainbow trout stock kept in Rutki Station. The case study describes the potential usefulness of gynogenesis as breeding test to reveal carriers of harmful recessive alleles.
The clutches of pond turtle Emys. orbicularis, which have not completed their incubation period were transferred to indoors enclosure to finish the development. Newly hatched turtles were monitored regarding to the body weight and carapace sizes. During each of 24 measurements the turtles were subject to Open Field Test in order to evaluate their mobility and courage. The coefficient of repeatability for OFT performance was calculated as well as the correlation between body measurements and mobility. The trial prognosis about the further prospects of turtles after restocking were suggested.
A sample of newly hatched American colubrids, divided according to their level of domestication, understood herewith as the generation history in captivity, was tested in an open field test (OFT) for degree of activity and confidence in open terrain and in confrontation with individuals of such species as Pantherophis guttatus and Lampropeltis getula splendida as well as L. g. californiae, in order to compare their antagonistic and feeding behaviour reactions. The cluster comparison of defence reactions revealed no effect of domestication (many generation in captivity) in the face of potential danger. Even albino phase Kingsnakes, considered to be the form of this species most affected by captivity (altered genome), maintained their natural feeding response. The degree of activity in OFT conditions was seen to decrease with the snakes' age. Thus it was demonstrated that captive specimens bred in terrariums may be considered a gene bank for ex situ conservation strategy. However it is recommended that specimens as young as possible should be used in reintroduction to natural habitat, as these will respond most faithfully to the pressure of natural selection, based on their behavioural variation not supressed by apathy caused by captivity.
Mycobacterium fortuitum infection and adenocarcinoma were associated with cloacal prolapse in a White’s tree frog (Litoria caerulea). The disease was characterized by the presence of nodules in a cloacal mucous membrane. Bacteriological examination of the cloacal tissue revealed the presence of Enterococcus sp., E. coli and numerous acid-fast bacteria (AFB). The presence of AFB was confirmed by a Ziehl-Neelsen stain of the cloacal tissue and culture on the Löwenstein-Jensen medium. Post-mortem examination showed no changes typical of mycobacteriosis or neoplasia in other organs.
