The wholesome state of our forests is bad, and, here and there, even catastrophic. Particularly dangerous are insect pests showing a tendency to mass occurrences in the form of gradations deadly threatening hundreds and even thousands of hectares of tree stands. This paper presents an evaluation of control measures undertaken in 1979-1988 n the Kurpiowska Primaeval Forest. The possibilities of limiting chemical measures to the very necessary minimum are also presented.
There are no doubts that among numerous and very active insect species connected with common pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) a very important role is played by plays pine noctuid moth (= pine beauty moth, Panolis flammea SCHIFF.). In 2001 an air - borne equipment was designated (An-2R aircraft in agricultural version equipped with 10 atomisers type AU 5000 Micronair) to battle with this pest. During 7 operation flights (total time 7 h 51’) an ultra low volume (0.15 dm³·ha⁻¹) of insecticide Nomolt 150 SC (teflubenzuron) was sprayed onto tree crowns. The obtained effectiveness (98.4%) is the best indication of the position of this preparation in the whole arsenal of zoocides used in the forest stands control.
