Modification of polycondensation adhesives with animal proteins. Part III. Industrial trials and results. The effort of authors is to determine the possibility of ecological and effective application of animal biopolymers into polycondensation adhesives used in woodworking industry. Modification of condensation adhesives with animal proteins were directed to urea-formaldehyde (Diakol Ml) and phenol-formaldehyde (Fenokol A) resins, with the aim to verify the influence of biopolymers on mechanical properties of plywood. The supposed source of biopolymers is solid waste from leather production (e.g. chromium shavings and chippings, hypodermic and adipose ligament, leather chippings, gelatine production and food packing). The aim of the research was the preparation and optimisation of technology for biopolymer production and following utilisation into adhesive mixtures with the application in woodworking industry in industrial conditions of Bučina Zvolen, a.s.. The solution of the problem of processing and application of animal biopolymers will be improved ecology at leather tanning and also in woodworking industry in the field of adhesive application and utilisation for furniture products.
Chemical stability of UF adhesives is an important hygienic property. This paper deals with chemical stability of UF adhesives modified with glutaraldehyde (GA) and collagen. GA was added to the adhesive to increase the structural stability of the adhesive. Collagen was added in the form of acid hydrolysate; the hydrolysate is chrome tanned leather waste. Formaldehyde content in plywood was measured through FESYP method; and formaldehyde emission from cured UF adhesive film was measured through “chamber method” according to the STN 49 0030 and STN EN 717-1 standards. The results showed that simultaneous presence of collagen and GA in the UF adhesive mixture reduced the amount of formaldehyde in plywood, and reduced the formaldehyde emission from cured UF adhesive film, as well.
The contribution evaluates the trials worked out of the 5. Frame programme of European commission „RESTORM". VIPO, a.s. Partizanske in co-operation with TU Zvolen together with UTB Zlín, CSIC Barcelona solves the preparation of biopolymers from the secondary raw sources with supposed application into eco-adhesives. Modification of polycondensation adhesives with animal proteins continued by application trials in laboratory and semi-production range. The aim of the research was the preparation and optimisation of biopolymer production technology and following utilisation into adhesive mixtures with the application in woodworking industry.
