In the period of 1957-1964, 6633 subjects were examined twice by Hall's method, including 5604 children and adolescents at the age of 0-18 years which makes up. 1.72% of the population. The number of examined boys was 2844 (1.71% of population), that of girls 2760 (1.72% of population). The data are given in Tables I and II. A correlation was found to exist between the incidence of enterobiosis, age, social and living conditions of examined groups, regardless of urban or rural environment. Sex does not seem to play an essential role. The comparison of the present studies with those of other Polish authors was not invariably feasible as the latter varied as regards the methods and material used and did not contain any mention that demographic data had been taken in consideration in individual age groups. The comparable investigations are given in Table III. The advisability of mass epidemiologic studies by Graham's methods is discussed. In order to obtain comparable results, standarization of methods and selection of material is proposed in mass investigations on the incidence of parasites of the alimentary tract.
Out of the 250 examined human corpses in 5 cases (2 per cent) were demonstrated larvae of trichinella both by the use of trichinoscopy directly and by the digestion method (Table 1). The number of larvae per 1 g. of the examined muscles oscilated in the case of trichinoscopy from 0,35 to 31,5, in case of digestion from 0,05 to 2,9 (Table 2). The state of the capsules and of the parasites suggested old infections, whereby the dead persons were subjected during their life (during the war period and postwar years) to migrations of the population, what suggest the contracting of the invasion outside the province of Szczecin. The age of the infected oscilated within the limits from 51 to 70 years. In none of the cases was it possible to establish on the basis of conversation with the families of the dead whether the infections run a course accompanied by symptoms. Only in 1 case there was a fresh infection and simultaneously there is a certain probability that the source of the invasion was pork meat from a pig bred on the terrain of the Szczecin province. The case was in detail discussed, particularly the lesions found during the postmortem examinations. The patient died from lung tuberculosis.
The author presents an arrangement of 243 cases of taeniasis diagnosed in human beings in the Szczecin province during the period from November 1959 till May 1862. This constitutes 0.42 per cent of the examined cases. Most commonly occurs Taenia saginata, rarer was diagnosed T. solium (4.5 per cent). In 17.7 per cent of the cases only the Taenia sp. was diagnosed. Besides them were isolated Hymenolepis nana (in 6.2 per cent), H. diminuta in 0.4 per cent and Diphytlobothrium latum in 0.8 per cent of the positive cases.
