The paper presents the achievements of the Department of Climatology in the domain of applied climatology, that is - the elaborates, which are being prepared in a special form and can be made use of in various fields of human economic activity. They concern mainly town planning, various chapters of transport, as well as the health care in the spas, and tourism. The manner of transforming information on climate inio the parameters allowing for the assessment of climate and for the expression of this assessment in the form comprehensible for the business agents and planners, who can use it as one of the bases in selection of the optimum strategy or action, is presented. A number of instances is given of the assessment of climate and the use made of such information on climate in order, first of all, to demonstrate the hazard resulting from the atmospheric conditions, and to show the advantageous features, climatic assets, which are beneficial for the development of a definite economic activity. Climate assessment provides also the basis for a better use of the climatic assets through indication of the methods of alleviating the hazard from the side of the atmospheric conditions, as well as preservation or amplification of the advantageous features of climate.
