Pomatoschistus marmoratus (Risso, 1810) is a small demersal fish and one of the dominant species inhabiting shallow waters of the Mediterranean. Information, however, on their feeding habits are still scarce. In this study, the stomach contents of P. marmoratus were investigated in order to determine feeding habits according to seasons and sizes. The fish were collected monthly from 3 stations between October 2008 and August 2009, using a beach seine, from the shallow waters of the Çanakkale Strait, Turkey. A total of 383 P. marmoratus, ranging from 13 to 69 mm TL, were analysed. The most important prey items in the stomach contents were copepods and amphipods. The numerical abundance of each food item in the stomach contents varied significantly with season. The diet of juvenile P. marmoratus consisted mainly of copepods. The occurrence of largest prey items such as amphipods and bivalves appeared relatively higher in adults. However, no significant differences were found between the feeding habits of juveniles and adults.
The fundamental information for selecting and designing the most efficient treatment method of hospital waste is obtained by means of waste composition analysis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the physical and elemental composition of waste in four hospitals in Sivas, Turkey. The results should help us select and design proper waste disposal. During the study period it was estimated that the daily waste generation rate of four hospitals was 985 kg/day, projected to be 1267 kg/day in 2015. Furthermore, analysis indicated that the moisture content of wastes was 14,2 %. The four hospital wastes consist of 92% combustible wastes and 8% noncombustible wastes by mass. The combustible wastes constitute paper (16%), textiles (10,2%), cardboard (4%), plastics (41,2%) and food waste (17%). Since the ratio of combustible waste is high, the incineration method has been suggested as a proper disposal method.
The problem of noise in the industries around Sivas has been examined in this study; and noise measurement and survey studies have been carried out at concrete traverse, cement, iron and steel and textile factories located in this region. A questionnaire was completed by 256 workers during this study in order to determine the physical, physiological, and psycho-social impacts of the noise on humans and to specify what kind of measurements have been taken both by the employers and workers for protection from the effects of noise. It has been specified, during the surveys, that the noise levels detected in all the industries are much above the 80 dBA that is specified in the regulations: 73.83% of the workers in these industries are disturbed from the noise in their workplaces, 60.96% of them have complaints about their nervous situations, 30.96% of these workers are suffering hearing problems although they had not had any periodical hearing tests and they are not using ear protection equipment.
