In Poland, for many years, there has been observed an ever increasing importance of durables in households' consumption. The share of families' expenditure on this group of products has been increasing what, in result, facilitates improvement of the indices illustrating many households furnishing, and a higher dynamics, what is obvious, takes place in relation to goods that occur more seldom. The statistical data point out to great differences in households' furnishing with durables in the regional profile, and the scale of differentiation depends on types of equipment. Insignificant spatial differences take only place in case of universal goods, with a high degree of saturation. Decidedly larger one may be observed in case of the goods more seldom and very seldom occurring in equipment, of those assigned to modern, luxury ones.
The households' consumption needs are mainly met through the market, and they are reflected in the level and structure of expenditure. Household surveys show that the process of consumption implemented by the households is determined by many variables of a social, economic, demographical or cultural nature. A factor that distinctly varies consumption expenditure is the region/province (voivodship) of household's residence. Households from the biggest towns have an important influence on the average expenditure patterns. In such voivodships, the patterns implemented are more advantageous from the point of view of meeting consumption needs of the families what may lead to erroneous conclusions as to the situation in the whole voivodship.

One may also note favourable changes occurred in consumption over the years covered by the survey, particularly among households residing in Tyrol and Salzburg.
The goal and effect of functioning of every household is, first of all, satisfaction of individual and common needs of its members. Consumption needs are met mainly through the market what is illustrated by households" current expenditures. Young people's families constitute approximately 13% of all households in Poland, therefore, this is a significant group of consumers, being characterised, in many cases, by a certain difference in meeting their consumption needs as compared with other households as well as by a great internal differentiation of consumption. The article presents the level and structure of consumer expenditure in young people's families against the background of other households as well as it points out to the factors that differentiate to the greatest extent consumption in this group of families.
